Berkshire Brakes

Is there anyway to change the Berkshire's train brake from starting at 15%. Also, can you change the locomotive brake from automatically releasing when you use it? This also happens with the PRR K4 Pacific.

As far as the username I've just never put it on.

I'll give your challenge a try. My test run was with a 12-car consist using stock from the Horseshoe Curve and the Centipede package, although I see what you meant in your post with the wheelslip because I got that A LOT on my way up.

BTW: What route were you running your 22-car excursion on?

Castle Rock and NERW PA Division. I get a nice climb out of Monument on that 1.2-2.3% grade. I try to reenact that "The Hill " clip from Listen for the Whistle. I haven't tried climbing out of Castle Rock yet. I think its just over 1% so I can probably reenact the clip better from that end of the line. I don't buy very much DLC because I use my family's computer. Plus that thing is stock from 2005. I can barely get 14 fps! So, I'm saving up for my own computer.

I just tried the challenge. 2 baggage cars, 2 diners, 11 coaches. Got halfway up the brick yard and I had to give it up, not so much for wheelslip but the train just gradually grinded to a halt. So yeah the challenge is still on.

After last night's defeat I got to thinkin' in bed "Boy that Berk slips a whole lot more than it did before I made the power upgrade". The only thing I could think of was that too much power was getting to the rails too fast because of the upgrade. I went peeping around the locomotive file (separate from the simulation file) and found some figures for traction. I figured that these worked for the old version, so maybe if I increase these proportionally to the power upgrade then maybe the engine won't slip as much.

I just got done testing it. I still had wheelslip on the way to Galitzin but not as much as before. Since the 765 is your favorite loco how about you beta test this next upgrade and let me know what you think?

Sure! And by the way, I got the NKP 759 to Galitzin with 12 PRR P70 coaches. It was a fun run and I got the engine to the curve without any wheelslip. So, I stopped the train on the Curve and was able to restart the train with a little wheelslip. I think I was probably being too aggressive with the throttle last time and making too big of adjustments. This time, I opened the throttle all the way as so as I cleared the yard and made small adjustments with the reverser.

Just keep in mind that minimum reduction actually does occur around 20 - 30% lever throw. I found some user manuals once for Self Lapping Air Brakes.

"Well Done," said Sir Topham Hatt (Fat Controller). I got the NKP 759 to the Curve this time without wheelslip. I came around between 14-20 mph. I had to slow down because the injector came on. Remember that picture on that link on my challenge thread? Well, I tried retaking it.

Yes I have. I had been trying to repaint NKP 759 to look the way it did when it pulled the GSCL. Since I did the C&O Kanawha re-lettering, I'll probably try again. This trip actually is what got Ross Rowland to think about doing the American Freedom Train. I heard that John Wayne suggested the AFT idea to him.
