First Repaint Help

Unread postby slick204 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 6:07 pm

So I decided to give repainting a shot. I followed Marleyman's tutorial and with a few missteps got something into the game.
I chose the RWA RS1 and changed the color of just the part 1 texture however when in the game the color is mottled, for some reason.

Any idea what's going on here? Alpha channel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! *!!thnx!!*

OK, this is what the alpha channel looks like:

I know the alpha channel deals with transparency but why would you use a pattern like this?

Create a new layer above the imported level. Choose from the new layer and place your color where you need it. If you have colored everything, reducing visibility to a low value, such as 15 or 25.
Then you have to combine together both levels. Then you go on as you know it, so save it as a DDS, import with RSBin as TgPcDx and save it in the engine. I hope this helps, but I don't know anything of this engine, I don't own this one yet.

Take a break, it's spring here like summer...work will continue in autumn and wintertime.

Thanks for the replies. I think that's pretty much what I did. I was concerned about the mottled look but when I looked closely at the original model in the game it has it too, but to a much lesser extent. I have since found out that there was a repaint kit available for the RS-1 (thanks Rick!) and have restarted using it. I only got part way last night. I hope to get it into the game tonight and see how it looks.

Here's my first attempt. It looks OK to me but I'm no expert. I haven't tried to make the trucks silver yet. Also the bottom door louvers are still grey even though I painted the textures. I'm not sure what's going on there. From the pictures I can find it looks like these had numbers on the front, back, sides and under the logo. If I understand correctly I would have to make it a static number to do that.

Thanks Mike! But it has to be one of the easiest repaints. It's only one color! Anyway, I messed with the trucks. Do you think they are light enough?

Good job! Based off a quick Google search the trucks seem to be a bit brighter in real life, but all the photos look different so it's really what you think looks best.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! Here's the how it stands now.

I think the front and back numbers might be a bit too large. They're just painted on now. I might take Rick up on his offer for custom number placement.
