Problem with engine body paint

Unread postby aksingha » Mon Apr 28, 2014 6:27 am

I have made my very first train model and got it running in the game without problem. Thanks to mrennie and many other members who helped me sort out some problems that i faced while i was learning(Still learning) .

Nowm i have some problems with the paint part. My loco body's paint looks a little different from the way it is supposed to be. when viewing the train from a certain distance the paint/color edges are not sharp, its looks like a spray paint. It also looks as if the body is a little bit illuminated than the surrounding objects. As i don't know how to use photoshop so, I used ms paint for paint work and converted to .ace format using photoshop.Below is a video link of my model in TS2014.

Could using MS paint be the reason to why i get such texture in the game. !*don-know!*

I forgot to mention that, I actually stretched the paint a little bit. Maybe that is the reason.

Hi,

The fuzzy line on the line below the front cab window is almost certainly caused by stretching the texture vertically.

As for the lighting, to understand that problem better, we need to know what shader you've used in the material. If it's one that needs an alpha channel to indicate the degree of specular shine, you will need to use an editor that can handle alpha channels - and MSPaint cannot. It really will be worthwhile investing some time in learning to use Photoshop (and there is a version of the tool that is completely free).

!*cheers*!
Mike

P.S. Getting your first engine into the game and being able to run it successfully is a superb achievement. Congratulations!

Thanks *!!thnx!!* and next time will try not to stretch the texture image. And LordMannu also suggested some tips to apply in 3ds max. Changing some default values and adding a suffix_nm in the ace file. Will try all of it and will see if it gets corrected

That's excellent advice - I use _nm on many of my textures because it prevents them from being compressed (and of course the compression tends to make the image less sharp).
