Need Help with the SimpleEngine Demo In TS2014

Unread postby aksingha » Wed Apr 23, 2014 9:32 am

HI, i have successfully made and exported the SimpleEngine model example by following the developer Docs of RW. But whenever i try to drive the train by selecting, the train jumps off the track into the air and then "Train Derailed" message appears. I followed the guide exactly as it is and checked everything again, found no missing entries or anything of that sort. So, what is wrong with the exported model, Someone please help. !*don-know!* !**conf**!

You have to make sure that the position of the transforms (or group/node centres) for the bogies (trucks) and/or the axles are correct in the model, and also correct in the "offset" specifications in the blueprints, and that you have the axle and bogie entries in the correct order, and also the naming in the model (the bo01, who01, etc.) has to be correct. I seem to remember there's a mistake in the dev docs - first time I tried to make a baggage van with two bogies (each with two axles), it flew into the air, either by itself or as soon as it coupled to something else. It was all down to errors in the signs for the offsets.

Another possibility is if the bounding box (or collision box) is specified so that it's partially undergound - it'll then be repelled by the ground as soon as it's activated (when you click on the vehicle). check the y offset for the centre of the collision box and make sure the entire box is above ground.

According to the dev docs a TractiveEffortVsSpeed.csv file should be put in the TractiveEffortVsSpeed field but there is no such name present, instead there is a TractiveForceVsSpeed field present. Could these be the reason.

No, that has nothing to do with objects flying into the air. They fly into the air because the Physx module is given incoherent positions and the effect is like stretching a rubber band and then cutting it in the middle.

There are a lot of inconsistencies in the dev docs, but I doubt they'll ever be re-written.

If your model is small enough to send in an email, perhaps you could pm me, I'll give you an email address to send it to, and I can have a quick look and see if I can spot the mistake. Did you build the model in 3DCrafter (that's the only one I can work with)?

You can send me the blueprint .xml files for the engine and bogies, then at least I can look at the offsets you've defined and see if there's something wrong there. If we're lucky, the error is only in the blueprints, not the model.

All I can tell you is thereis no error in the Simple Engine tutorial.
I have used it to produce a working engine using Blender.
I would go over every step again, making sure all instructions were followed exactly, especially checking that every value was entered correctly.

It's OK, we sorted it all out via pm. He's got it working and driving now.
