Are There Any Dash 9 Dynamic Brake fixes?

I have fixed my own and was thinking of posting it, but I want to make sure there isn't a well known fix already. I did a file search here at RWA and couldn't find any...

I was wondering the same thing. I played my first scenario with a Dash 9 yesterday and the dynamic brake was acting more like the brake on the simple controls. Very erratic and frustrating.

Yes, I've fixed that and made the air brakes a little more progressive as well.

I hope you're able to upload your fix. Those D9's are used in a lot of add on scenarios and I haven't learned how to swap stock yet.

Do you think the fix would work for the Southern Pacific Dash 9 as well? I find it quite annoying to be driving down a steep hill on Donner when I can't use my dynamics because they are faulty.

Probably not, but I am planning on looking at the SP Dash 9 on Donner soon.

There was a thread a number of months ago dealing with the dynamic brakes, I can't find the thread now? Long story short you can edit the "Dash 9 Engine Simulation" file and change the <MaxForce> value found in the <DynamicBrakesSystem> to a value of 70. If you want the dynamic brakes to be lighter, drop the MaxForce value down to 52. You'll need the most recent version of Mike Simpson's RW_Tools (http://www.rstools.info/downloads.html) so you can uncompress the .ap files allowing you to edit the engine's Simulation file.

70 is too low... At least with this particular engine.
I've been playing with 90 to 100.

OK. I've just figured out through testing the locos don't all seem to be handling the same...

From my personal experience, if you can control 100% of the train speed with just the dynamics your settings are too high. Now AC dynamics are more powerful than DC dynamics so 90 for a AC traction motor unit would not be bad, but for me 70 on a DC Dash 9 or ES44DC is about right. If you want to add a little more excitement drop that value down to 55. For four axle EMD's I've been using MaxForce values in the mid twenties, 25 works for most. For older six axle EMD's like the SD40-2 MaxForce values in the mid 30's work pretty well. Like everything else, your mileage may vary !*roll-laugh*! as we cannot guarantee the physics behind the curtain are 100% correct *!!wink!!*

I must confess I'm taking a second look at those settings for maximum force.
I wish I knew where they are hiding the wheelslip settings for the Dynamics.

Wheelslip is controlled in the main engine simulation bin file, not varied by dynamics.

Okay, people.
After quite a bit of test driving, I think it's ready and I've uploaded the Dash_9_BrakeFix to Bob. It should be in the file library soon.
Next on the agenda is the brakes on the SD70s in the SD70 Pack V2 Volume 2. Those are mostly sorted out already. I just want to take them for a few more test drives.

Flying Monkey out.

No feedback yet...
I downloaded a copy from the file library and it seems to still work on my end.
