That's coming along splendidly! You'll be exporting it into RW soon. When you do, a quick way to test it without all the hassle of setting up a proper blueprint is to put it into a simple static scenery blueprint. I do that all the time with individual parts of a loco, just to check how they look (in the Asset Viewer) and to make sure there aren't any texturing problems, before I export the entire loco.

If i get a chance over the rest of the holidays I'll finish putting a basic texture over everything and have a go at putting it in the game.
Being Scottish and with Hogmany tomorrow this may be a problem !*cheers*!

Between the tutorial, your blog and all the help I've had on this thread from Mike and Hack I'd still be staring at a cube wondering what to do with it.
Unless I'm doing something I've already learned I have the tutorial open whenever I'm working.

I've made a bit of a major rookie mistake with the body so i've had to start over with a back up.
When i originally traced the outline i forgot to make sure that the body was actually symetrical. I only noticed it when i was ligning up points on the doors.
I did start to re-align points but with the amount of them i would have to do i think it's just quicker to start over.
My back up shell has been straightened out and is ready for the windows and doors to be cut in.

I'm also having a problem with the 3dcrafter camera crashing the software everytime i go to take a screenshot.

Is there anyway i can take a screen grab without using the built in camera?

I use PrintScreen from Gadwin Systems

http://www.gadwin.com/download

One way to quickly realign a lot of points is to use the "Equalize Selection" button, which takes the selected points and realigns them along the x, y or z axis, taking the average coordinate value for all those points and assigning that average to them all. Once they are all aligned, keeping them selected and locking all but that axis, you can slide them up/down/sideways as desired to get them all into the correct position.

P.S. Anyone who doesn't make rookie mistakes just isn't trying hard enough *!!wink!!*

I think i was just getting a little cocky with my progress and needed knocking down a notch or two *!greengrin!*
I'll try equalize method and see if i can straighten it out. I also got the screengrab sorted.

Here's some update pics

This one shows the back up body sitting in the old body. You can see how much the body has been straightened.

I've got some proper springs built now ready to be fitted to the bogie so i can lose the cylinders.

It's looking fabulous. There's a lot of very nice detail in the trucks/bogies.

My advice would be to try texturing it now, before going further with the modelling. It's reassuring when you get the model to show up in the sim with the proper textures. Leaving it until the geometry is finished might make it harder to apply the textures, if you happen to have merged parts together rather than keeping them separate - I merge parts only when it's still just as easy to texture the merged shape as the separate shapes, or when the separate shapes are already textured and I'm sure I won't need to re-texture them ever again. That reminds me - more than once, 3DC has played a trick on me and deleted the texturing of one or more parts, and I've had to either do it all over again or (if I'm lucky) copy and paste the part from a backup version of the model.
