OK, the good news is that I found the problem.

The bad news is that its in the GEO file.

Knowing this you can probably guess what the problem is...

The GEO only references four numbers 2, 1, 3, 0. I cannot completely prove this because there seems to be a bug in Serz which will not allow RWTools to recompile the GEO after I applied my changes (perhaps this was done on purpose?), but I looked through the whole file and there are no other numbers referenced.

I am a bit perturbed by this. This at the very least should be in their QA test plan, for the simple fact that they need to test if ALL the number textures look OK on the model.

Try the black one, it is the new model SD40-2. You can actually change the number on that one. Wich tells me that one isn't hard coded into the geo file.
You can reskin it into whatever you want.

They still need to fix the default and weathered.

Nice one! Thanks! !!*ok*!!

Now I can finish this repaint up.

I've also added the fourth template to the OP. This has underside parts and all the other little nick nacks that go on the locomotive. Get to work repainters!

I just looked at the SD Black and it has the same four primary numbers... I am missing something here.

Update:
What secondhandhero said got me to look at the differences between the black and default engines. I was wrong about the GEO, but I did discover that when I put the number textures from the black to the default they showed up (in white of course). So it would appear that the default engine has a problem loading its own numbers. I did look at them the other day and I could see anything wrong with them. Hopefully RSC will get this sorted out quickly.

Just need to iron out a few small details. Also, does that shade of blue look right to you guys?

Looks great to me. You might want to make it a bit lighter, but I've only seen faded CR locos in real life up close, so I don't know the true color of new locomotives.

ATSF3814 wrote:Yeah I've noticed that numbering problem as well. Even if you try to change the number in the flyout window, it just stays at 3210. !*don-know!*

I sent a PM to Derek about the problem so hopefully he can help us fix it.

I had that issue with the Cornell GP38-2. It seems that if the number textures are not correct, alphas, etc. it will use the values in the.geo file and place the default numbers there. I'll almost bet that the numbers are created <texture>Base_number_3</texture> and so on, the order being 3210 as it was on the Cornell loco.

Don't give up on that SD-40T Papa, as soon as i can, I'm going back and see if some of the new tricks work with it.

EDIT: Nevermind... model is not worth the effort.

Actually, it looks like that PM I sent to Derek did the trick because RSC released an update that fixed the numbering problem on the UP SD40-2:

Do you have the template with the cab? I have used these blanks before and I really like them. For some reason, that one does not show up. Thanks!
