Herm... did you try manually changing the number when you install it? I just tried it out on the default model, using the Futura Yellow font set (Digits_futura-yel), manually edited the number and got good results.

After poking around in the bin file, I discovered that it was still using the number dcsv file in the default boxcar folder. So I just changed it to use my edited dcsv file and that did the trick.

Just wanted to remind you that their is a 10% horizontal stretch for the 50' box. For my reskins I had to scrunch them by that amount to make they look proper.

So far Engravers MT is the closest font I've found for the reporting mark. I also can't figure out how to recolor the latches on the doors. I recolored the section of the template labeled door parts, but it didn't do anything.
I also don't think there's any way to move the numbers without editing the model.
