Sometime a route does not get developed, because the signature motive power is not available. So the release of these engines may inspire some to build a part of the NYC. I would be thrilled to see them available, with or without a route.

I don't want to hear any Eeyore's out there saying someone couldn't build it out of the New York-New Haven and Horseshoe Curve Routes. It can be done!

I never heard anyone say a route couldn't be built or that there wasn't one in progress, all I said was

A nice freeware route could be done properly with a small group of experienced guys working on it. I don't think one guy could do Harmon to Buffalo in a timely fashion and have a detailed route. At best it would have to be something semi-realistic.

If they let Australians in, anybody can get in !*roll-laugh*!

A BIG definite YES on the locos - there is so little US steam, everything is most welcome !*drool*!

It has been a bit of a "Catch 22" situation - teraformers are rteluctant to invest in route building if there is nothing to run on it, and modellers are reluctant to invest in rolling stock creation unless there is somewhere to run it (unless of course you are Mike Rennie, who is Scottish, who did both :) )

!*cheers*!

I've been following his work on YouTube for a while now. You'd better believe I'm interested. This is excellent work.

I makes me glad to see so much serious interest here! These models look amazing! As for suggestions for what could appear along with the locomotives, perhaps a set of heavyweights and/or streamlined coaches (baggage, coach, observation for the heavyweights or baggage, coach, diner, sleeper, observation for the streamlined ones). I've heard that passenger cars are almost as difficult/time consuming to make as locomotives are, so perhaps even a repaint of an existing set of coaches would suffice. Perhaps a repaint of the Empire Builder or the California Zephyr sets? Or repaints of the britkits heavyweights? I know there is a grey 20th-century repaint of the free g-trax streamline coaches here in the workshop. And greatnortherner (i think, I may be wrong.) has the NYC heavyweights in green and grey paint schemes.

It goes without saying that a variety of freight could be another choice for rolling stock.

In terms of a route, I think if a few people got together and planned a 50-mile fictional and vaguely branded route based on real railroads in the northeastern US, a lot of users would be able to run whichever railroads they'd want to, including the NYC, without having to worry about having a specific route for each road name they have. But I do realize how much time that could take.

I'm sure many people would be happy to have the locomotives alone, even if they only came with a couple freight cars and a caboose! I know I would! Instead of a whole NYC route, people may just have to use their imaginations! !*hp*!

Hi Phil,

Any chance of a link or pointers to find the work on the Tube? Would love to check it out. A name search didnt bring up anything...

Well I checked out the Flicker page and the WIP photos have me pumped! A c&O streamlined Hudson, and a PRR T-1. I really feel we should get behind this content, and encourage him to make it available. I would gladly make a donation for any of the locos I am interested in.

Here's a rough demo of the J3a cab and other features. I suggest watching the whole video as some features take time to activate.

There's lots more to the locomotive than is shown in the video, Tom. Working valve gear, blower, a loudness knob to control the volume of the whistle....blah blah blah.
