RCAP RoadRailer Repaint Project

Unread postby hobo1960 » Sat Jun 04, 2022 4:50 pm

G'day, all.

I've been away for some time with personal issues and other distractions but I've not been unproductive with my repaint projects.

I just completed ten sets of new prototype RoadRailer cars that I'd hoped to share this weekend. Alas, there is good news and there is not so good news.

First the good. Here's the cars as they look in the game:

Now the bad news...

I'll let the screenshots speak for themselves. *!sad!*

Does anyone know any way of editing the model (using some tool? perhaps TSTools?) to somehow overcome this problem?

I only discovered the problem after I decided to take my 'group' shots. Prior to that, when I loaded them in the game I thought they were looking spiffy and got excited...alas.

I ran a color map test to see what exactly was happening with the following results. It seems that one side and top of each car is same part of texture, while the other side uses different part. Very frustrating method.

I'm hoping someone with much more experience and expertise will be able to help so I can get these out and shared with the community.

Wow, that's real odd. Here is the answer the picture shows that you only needed to paint the one side since it mirrors on the other side and the part that's causing you the problem is the roof. Don't ask why the lettering on the stock one is not showing the lettering on the roof cause I haven't figured that out yet.

I trust you are painting on the nm and nmc textures.

Thank you for assistance, Buzz.

I first looked at all the textures and identified following as having the sides:

jrc_triplecrown.TgPcDx

jrc_triplecrown_nm.TgPcDx

jrc_triplecrown_nmc.TgPcDx

jrc_triplecrown2

But as they are all the same texture, I assumed that I could paint one and then replace the others.

My first experiment was to replace the first three above but the original textures still displayed. That was when I discovered the last texture. When I replaced that one, my repaints showed up - but with the weird effect.

So today, I replaced the top three with originals once again and only used the last one. They seemed to have no effect.

I hope my explanation makes sense.

I hope even more that a solution will make itself know. ;)

Buzz, I'm going to try and update my texture based on your photo. ;) here's hoping for success.

But my color maps and results do not agree with your pic. As you can see, I colored the two sides and then looked in the game for the results. So one side creates top and side, while the other...well..

I must be dense and am missing something important?

Well I can't see the other side but it should be red. So what is the problem? And you should be painting the nm and the nmc.

Hmm...

I reviewed the textures as you suggested and this is still what I'm seeing.

I think this image more clearly shows my troubles. The red is indeed a side texture but the yellow is used both on opposite side, as well as the top.

I did the nm one only and this is what I have. Here is a shot of the texture and here is a shot of each side.

As you can see only a portion of the lower panel is even used for the roof. Additionally the other textures if you test them while they look the same they are looking at another part of the model only such as the trucks in one etc. Kind of a strange way to get at it but I guess it works.

Brilliant!

I am just back from my running with dog and was thinking of doing exactly that to see if it helped!

You saved me an extra step. Thank you, Buzz. This is why I reach out for help to members of this community.

OK, I'm going to edit my textures and see how things go.

Sigh...OK, let me make sure we're agreeing on things because I'm still not having success here.

You said you ONLY replaced the jrc_triplecrown_nm.TgPcDx file correct? Was that the ONLY file you changed? Because....

I replaced that texture with my new repaint file and this is the result I get [see below] *!rolleyes!*

As before, one side displays fine, and thanks to your suggestion, the roof now displays correctly. But the same issue remains. One side covers both opposite side and roof. **!!bang!!**

Arggggggghhhh!!

Try doing the nmc one as well. It may be the settings on your game. I'm going to confirm this by changing the base paint to one I make that for my computer I did the right thing.
