GP7/Dash9 exhaust - wagon scripts tutorial

Unread postby pikehkr » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:37 pm

As you may be aware Dave Brindley developed some great exhaust and engine sound scripts for his GP7 model. These models send messages from the driven unit back to the helpers to show exhaust and sounds. I added these scripts, with his permission, to the Dash9 repaint units(the NS and CSX models).

One of the things required for this to work properly is for the wagons, both freight and passenger, to respond to these messages and send them back along the train. Dave supplied a script with his GP7 to do this. For it to work properly, you must edit each wagon used to pass the messages and this is a daunting task.

While not automated, I have created a tutorial using some freeware software that makes doing this manageable. The first time you go to do this will take a couple of hours (to learn and dependent on how many wagons you have). Once you get a feel for it though, updating new wagons or editing the default wagons after an update or file verification does not take much time at all. I did it last night after the upgrade in about 5 minutes.

It really is nice to be able to look back along the train and see the smoke and hear the sounds coming from the trailing units as they go by.

This tutorial is available as a free download from my site. It is item #8 on the products page at http://www.pikesproducts.com/14201.html for anyone interested.
