Curious though, what is a CF7 and GP7U

Do you have any pictures?

I might try one if I know what it looks like.

If i'm not mistaken, a CF7 is one of Santa Fe's creations. Its an older locomotive, F7 or F9 repowered and fitted with what looked like a late model EMD Spartan cab. The loco was pretty much stripped and rebuilt by SF from the ground up.

Many of them weren't even re-powered. Chop off the nose, add a low nose fabrication, and use a scrap gp7 hood.... done.

That is correct. It was put out by the Cleburne Texas shops, hence the CF designation.

Several of them are on the A Line now as Florida Central Units, along with N&W GP9 #669 (in the photo as #60)

Not sure if its all factual, but it seems to be a good site for infor on these units.

If i'm not mistaken, the Chatooga & Chickamauga, an NS leased shortline just over the hill from me, has one. As a matter of fact, I got a picture!

I'm so up for it. I've been planning on making this bad boy...

But that's not gonna happen any time soon. Got SO much to do first. So if someone does make one, I will be their second biggest fan after you!
