C&O Bauer Lumber Pack 01:

Unread postby qrfan3 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 10:16 pm

Should have these to Hawk in the next day or so.
The Bauer Lumber Co ( BLC ) is the fictitious named lumber area of Tori's C&O Alleghany Route. Although there was a real lumber camp and workings in that area it was named BLC in recognition for the scenery items and work that Pete Bauer had done for Tori.
The Shays have auto numbering 1 to 20 but don't come with #7....this number I reserved for Pete in a special loco that I did with added extras for him alone. I have split the numbering equal....half each per color ( black smoke box / silver smoke box ). They are wood burners with slightly different wood in the tenders.
The log cars have auto numbering also and come in two colors and two loads that can be interchanged between cars...the default pine load of Michael Stephens and a hard wood type load that I am trying to get just right.

The Shay is the payware Class B Shay by Dick Cowen and available from...... http://dickyjim.com/page26.html
The Skeleton log car is the free ware version by Michael Stephen and available from...... http://www.golden-age-rails.com/indexarc.html

Gordon has done a beautiful job on these items. I want to thank him very much for all of his work. I think you will all really enjoy them!

P.S. My dad was a lumberjack.

Finally got this pack uploaded to Hawk.
Special thanks to Tori...her ingenuity, work and idea of supplying a CopyShapes.bat file for ease of install for the shape files... !!*ok*!!
Even though this file has been tested on four different computers and two different OS's I have supplied a bat backup readme for those who may encounter issues with using the CopyShapes.bat file.
The main readme_FIRST file has all the instructions for the normal install.

If you have any issues with the install or pack, please note here in this thread.

This jpg is supplied in the pack file to show where the CopyShapes.bat file is located:

Enjoy!!

has anyone had trouble with the class B shay derailing at the second switchback at anderson on the C&O alleghany route freeroam?
it has been happeing at the BLC Camp spur mrkr4 switch. it seems to be lifting of the rails as I come to the top.

Yes!!!! I have experienced exactly the same problem, but in a scenario that I'm trying to write. I have 3 skeleton logging cars coupled to the back of a Class B Shay which is reversing to that 2nd switchback. The skeletons pass the switch without problems, but the Shay derails.

This image shows the switch and connecting rail, which meet at a very sharp angle (try looking at the image full size)

This image shows the Shay approaching the switch.

And here's the Shay with its front wheels not following the switch.

I've added an arrow indicating the wheel-track gap in this closeup:

In the "automated" scenario, the same thing happens, but the engine continues forward and gets back on the track without derailing.

Perhaps the track needs adjustment here? I hope that Tori sees these posts.

If you're not afraid to edit the map yourself, it's an easy fix. I know it got me so I dropped it down and dropped the terrain some to match. Also I tried the Britkit 0-6-0 and 0-8-0 switchers on there and they do a good job of taming that trail too.

Afraid? not exactly -- more like incompetent. Seriously, I've never ventured into route editing except to add some loaders to a route that had the loader structures but lacked the working parts. I'll wait for Tori to get back to work ... maybe find other possibilities for this scenario.
