The making of QMI_13 G-12 locomotive

Unread postby QcRail » Sun Jan 07, 2024 4:06 pm

This is the first in a progressive serie aiming at unraveling the G12 diesel loco asset file structure and to, eventually, simplify future repaints.

The G12 engine is built on the modular programming blocks concept, here 3D graphical entities, named childs, We have been used, til now, to have the entire 3d structure within the basic engine ",geopcdx" file: as a demo, I am starting with the basic engine module without links to any "child file". This basic module shows only the chassis and wheel arrangement components. We can also see the floating text logo : (just this piece of rolling stock can make a special addon heading to the reaper shop or scrap yard !*roll-laugh*! ).

The next posting will have this basic module plus the first child ... let's see what we shall discover? !!det!!

Till next posting !*cheers*!

Before we analyze each Child in detail, lets isolate all the necessary textures for the basic G-12 loco :
1. text_decais
2. text_bell + nm
3. text_floor + nm
4. text_cabine + nm
5. text_chassi + nm
6. cabdoor + nm

Now, we enter the Childs folder
1. body1

    text_corpo
    text_friente + nm
    text_exhaust + nm

QMI_13 phase02_body1.jpg

2. body2 : Not used, see body3
3. body3 : similar to body2 !
    text_chassi
    bogie/luz

4. g12_cab
    text_cabine + nm
    cabdoor
    Cabview/003
    lights/cablight_off

QMI_13 phase03_body1+body3+g12cab.jpg

These 3 children make-up the main loco components, but we are missing many details such as the cab interior.

With these 3 child assets we could proceed with a new G12 loco repaint (as long as we stay with the same road name colors, here black and red)

I love that logo with the RMS QUEEN MARY and how you have it positioned.

The making of QMI_13 G-12 locomotive, classic CN painting scheme

Unread postby QcRail » Sat Jan 13, 2024 12:46 pm

My past posting illustrated, step by step, all the various components or child necessary to repaint the EMD G12 locomotive. In the RWA library we have the number 10 version in the CN red and black paint scheme. I've chosen to focus my new paint scheme on the 50's vintage Canadian National green and yellow scheme. I've also used the famous maple leaf logo for the front of the loco and a minor logo,- the inclined Serves Atlantic Canada logo. !*brav*! to give this very specific CN-QMI livery...

G12_QMI-13_vintage.jpg

Minor details need to resolved, but 0ver 90% is ready !*YAAA*! and I will post more photos of this QMI13 repaint.

Enjoy, and your feedback will be appreciated

That is gorgeous! I've always loved the CN liveries, both the red-black and the older green-yellow. She will be a welcome addition to the roster!!! *!!thnx!!*

I may want to alter the QMI Railway letter logo with larger font !*hp*! and I might do the 44ton switcher (since I did the RWA version)

Enjoy, QcRail

Wouldn’t be a route made by me if the 44-tonner didn’t make a cameo appearance. Go for it !!*ok*!!
