Auto Numbering

Can auto numbering be added to a model that doesn't have it? I got a set of RRMods D&RGW coal hoppers, 6 cars individual numbering. The bin file doesn't appear to have any data for auto numbering. Rio Grande had a crap load of these cars, a H350 model. The first order was 12000-12499. You get the picture. I don't want to do 494 repaints!
