Tips for painting GEVOs?

I tried once doing a repaint of the black Kuju ES44AC into a fictional leaser railroad (think Citirail) and I had two problems. 1. I could barely see the texture because it blends in with the black background of the paint program, and 2. The texture blends in with itself. If you open up the texture files for any other Kuju ES44 (I haven't looked at RSC/DTGs GEVOs yet), you can see what I'm talking about.

Try using the alpha. It's usually a nice gray with all the details.

Some alpha templates turn out better than the one shown above. This is very helpful though. Sometimes you can get the logos to come completely off by doing this.

I am using an alpha mask, that's where the problem is, it makes that background almost pitch black. I guess the other factor could be my aging Gateway computer monitor. :/

So make it lighter.
