RWA GP20 repaint

Unread postby Geep20 » Fri Jul 03, 2015 3:20 pm

Thought this would be a more appropriate forum for the questions I may have regarding repainting and not in the WIP thread I started. Here is the progress so far on this loco.

First question is regarding the BN numbers still on the hood, what TGPCDX file is used for these numbers? Is it the primary number textures under the numbers folder? If so do they all need to be changed in order for the number on the loco to disappear?

Second, I was attempting to put the RWA phrase "The Lakeside Line" on the door below the cab but it seems the old BN logo that is currently invisible is preventing it from showing. I assume the RWA logo can't simply be put onto the door in the texture file but has to be made into a alpha image on the BN Logo texture file?

Last question for now, why when in the cab view do I still see the BN paint scheme through the windows? How do I change this in order to see the proper scheme in cab view?

As far as the repainting, this loco has proven to be a bit of a difficult one to learn on. Lots of trail and error and several times I have had to change the maroon color to get it at least close to correct. Lot's left to do but I hope for my first repaint it is at least looking good enough that folks on here would want to have it in their roster.

You've gotten much farther with the GP20 than I could.

I figured out the cab view problem on my own but I am still working on the decal problem.

I'm wondering can decals be removed completely? Is there a block of code in the GEOPCDX file that can simply be removed that controls the use and placement of decals. At this point that is the last stepping stone to finishing this model and it seems to be the most elusive one to conquer.

The decal needs to have the alpha channel made all-black, which renders the decal transparent - it is still there, but you can't see it.

The same applies to numbering if it is in the wrong place, in terms of making it disappear, but moving auto-numbering to a different location is more complex (and I've not grasped it yet!)

I already accomplished making the BN logo disappear from the cab but this keeps me from putting anything right onto the cab in the texture file. Basically the decal that no longer shows is still concealing any number or writing I may put directly onto the cab. Would I have to change the alpha channel on the logo to whatever writing I want to accomplish this task? The number on the back is a whole different beast, I did the alpha channel in black and all it accomplished was the numbers came out all the same(5555, 3333... and so on).

I will mess around some more until I get it but if anyone has an idea I am all ears.

There should be 10 numbers on the back of the loco - number_0-9.
