Missing Textures, ugh...

Unread postby SCLJim » Fri Feb 18, 2011 6:50 pm

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and back to the sim community after a long break.

Anyway I have a bit of a problem and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. I'm currently working on a few models and I'm trying to come up with a work flow between Maya and Railworks. Right now I'm using Blender as a go between for export. I've been testing some basic cubes and I've been able to import them into the game with no issues other than they all display, "missing texture". This has me completely stumped and I know I must be missing something really simple. The textures display properly in Blender and I can make it through the whole export/import process with no errors. Does anyone have any ideas on what I am missing.

Best Regards,
Jim

Hi, make sure your texture paths are relative rather than absolute. Also "Relative Paths Default" is set on.

If you look here (red arrow), the path is a relative one. If it's not, and you have "Relative Paths Default" set, then click the button shown with the yellow arrow and select your texture.

If you do not have Relative Paths Default set, here it is under User Preferences.
Start with a new scene, set that, then press CTRL+U to make that default on loading of any Blender file.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks so much for the reply! I made the changes and things are working fine! I do have a few other questions.

1. I cant seem to get preview to work in the asset editor. Any ideas? Even with the cube I just created and imported in game. It views fine in game but I cant get anything to show up in the editor.

2. I read in the documentation that you could instance wheels, bogies etc, yet I read in one of the forums that instancing was never included? Does that still hold true?

3. Has anyone pushed beyond 20k tris for locos? If so how much more can you get away with?

For your first and second question, I do not know, for your third, I have a loco nearing 78000 tris, so the answer would be yes.
