Vanishing locos - crashing sim

Unread postby KCJones » Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:53 pm

I have been getting reports of my FT not appearing in the sim or appearing in the editor then disappearing. For others it is OK.
I am now having the same problems and I notice whatever the problem is it affects my GP9s too. The child parts, crew, horns, fuel tanks, appear, disappear or are floating above the loco
!*hp*!

This is a worry (and most frustrating) as you can see from the various pictures and movies I have posted in various forums things were working well **!!bang!!**

Any suggestions?

Dick,

Did you re-export the engine between your last (successful) testing run and the upload of the beta set? I've had it happen that engines or cars "dissappeared" when something went wrong during the export from 3DC - though I have yet to figure out what exactly went wrong in these cases (wrong part selected? wrong exporter used? something else?). Maybe this is not only true for the shape files, but also for other files in the assets. I take it your FT and Geeps share some common files, maybe you modified some of these after your last run in RS when all was still fine? Your BIN file seems to be okay, from what I could tell earlier today.

Thanks Michael,

I think I have discovered what is causing the "child" parts to be out of alignment. By sacking the Kuju crew member and employing a copy of my own, things appear to settle down. !*salute*! Probably a union thing !*YAAA*!

More experimenting tomorrow. I will do the same with the GPs and see if it helps there.

There ARE problems with the 3D canvas exports though as sometimes I get a shape that is MUCH smaller than it should be.

Whoohoo! Glad you seem to have found the culprit, looking forward to beta 2! !*brav*!

But please don't blame the Kuju union for this. After all, they are used to working on board the A/C equipped Dash 9s, or at least the SD40-2s, so I can see why it must've been a shock to be sent out working the FTs again. !*hp*! No wonder they went on strike. !*salute*! Quite an effective strike, too, if they managed to make entire locomotives vanish into thin air.

I've experienced some troubles with exporting, too. Though I must say, at this point I am by no means ruling out it's a stupid user error I am doing again and again. *!embar*! I think that the 3DC export usually works if I select the Main object (or any RS-custom-field "wagon/engine" object in the first/main group) and then use the file menu exporter after one initial export with the plug-in menu train-sim wizard. I always say "yes" to the auto-LODs, and always "no" to the custom LODs.

Cheers!
