Issues when cloning via RW Tools

Unread postby ArcticCatZRT » Mon Sep 09, 2013 7:36 am

Alright guys, I have been working on a retexture of the NS Heritage SD70 pack. I am having a few issues with the locomotives themselves, not the textures.

To make the repaints I used RW Tools to clone the .bin of an existing unit so that I would have a whole new variation in the pack to paint. The issue is, the bin file seems to be messed up in the process. For example, the main clone (one with the crew in it) has only one issue, the exhaust particles work when the locomotive is sitting ideling but when I click to drive it, the particles disappear. Then when I use RWTools to make a clone of the clone without crew members, the exhaust works, but then the lighting system is all messed up.

Any ideas on how to fix these issues?

I say this with all seriousness, Learn how to root around in the bin files. I love RWTools for some things but it just doesn't get at it for me when I do repaints.

I am learning slowly how to play around in the .bin files. Surprisingly the Java programming class that I took in high school is actually helping me a bit in the process. Through my own investigation in the .bin files and some testing in ts13, it seems that all of the SD70 heritage units suffer from the same issues as the ones I cloned for repaints. So I don't think RW-Tools is the issue.

On a side note though, I will have to dive into the ES44 bins and manually delete the driver child objects as RW-Tools deletes the shadow when either making the clone or when it tries to delete the drivers.

Thanks for the advice there Buzz.

EDIT: Seems the issue with the ES44 cloning was due to RW-tools as well, seemed the program was deleting the shadow. A manual bin change resulted in a ND unit WITH a shadow and all things working properly! !*salute*!
