Help needed copying files in railworks folder please.

Unread postby pm600 » Thu May 21, 2020 6:08 am

Hi all. I am a new member here and would appreciate help with an issue. I have a freeware railworks file with Irish assetts from an uploader Brendan Moran (moranb). I downloaded them from UKTS website. The files downloaded and I used RW Tools to install. I can see the assetts in Kuju\rail simulator\rail vehicles\ but the read me says to copy the files into the exact named copy on railworks. I do not have rail simulator, I have RailWorks TS2020. I copied the files just into C:.....\Steam\Steamapps\Railworks but yet i cannot see my Irish loco or wagons in the consist builder or build menu. I hope I am making sense in my description. I will appreciate any help here.

RailSimulator folder is inside the assets\Kuju folder. Let us know if you need any more information.

Thanks guys for your replies. Here is the actual read me. You might be able to tell me where I am going wrong as I cannot see my Irish IE assets anywhere after I have used package manager. Appreciate your help..

Irish Rail Mk3 Carriages

Although gradually being withdrawn from service, these carriages formed the main Irish Rail Intercity trains between Dublin and Cork up to their replacement in 2006 by the new MK4 stock. They were still being used for services to Tralee, Galway and Waterford up to 2008 but are now being replaced by newer Class 29000 DMUs.

These are re-skins of the default HST Mk3 stock. Versions both with and without passengers are included.

The Package was made with Mike Simpson's RS-Tools as it will install in the Kuju/Railsimulator/assets/ folder which is not possible with the Package Manager.

To install, un-zip to a temporary folder and then run 'assetsetup.exe' and follow the instructions.

As at the time of up-loading, RW-tools does not have a similar facility to package re-skins. To use these carriages in RailWorks, the folder 'IEIntercity' in the Kuju/RailSimulator/Assets/RailVehicles/Diesel/HST/folder of RailSimulator should be copied to the same location in the identically named folder in RailWorks.

If you do not have Railworks, running the 'assetsetup.exe' will create an empty Railsimulator folder in the Program Files folder from which you can copy the files to Railworks.

Please note that you need to be familiar with copy and pasting tecniques to do this.

Irish IE assets.jpg

Look at the top and note the path. I think your item should in there. The instruction seems a bit strange to say the least. Often you have to put a GepPcDx into the folder somewhere from one of the items already in there. I don't have this particular item so I can't describe exactly what needs to be done.

Take a look at the picture in Buzz's post above. Drill down in your TS2020 assets folder until you get there.Push that window to one side of the screen.
Unzip UKTS_21651_IEIntercity.zip into a temporary folder and drill down until you get to a folder called IEIntercity.
Drag that folder from the temp folder into the window that looks like Buzz's picture above.
Close everything up and those carriages should be available in TS2020.
Be advised that they were created for Rail Simulator which was the grandfather of Railworks so the quality may be primitive.

@buzz456 and @overshoe

Hi guys. thank you for your help. As before I cloned the route involved and i can now see the Mk 3 irish rail carriages in the consist builder editor but they wont swap out. They seem to move existing consist out of position but are not visible. No issue when I swap out with a Mk 4. I have also found that the more attempts I make I get a memory error message and the game dumps. I have tried 32 and 64 bit. same result. As overshoe said they were initially rs assets merely moved to rw on the UKTS website. Thank you friends for your help. I will play away with the existing stock. I was just hoping I could get MK 3 up and running as they were the units I travelled on many times on as a teenager.

Before you give up take a look and see if there are GeoPcDx files in the wagon folders. If not there needs to be. That seems to be the only thing you are missing. The ones you need are in whatever model these are made from. You just need to copy and paste them over. The memory dump is probably coming from repeatedly starting TS but that's another chapter.

The geo files are included because the HST was a built in asset before 2013 so that is not the problem. The cars look very good for an 11 year old repaint of a 15 year old asset. I'm in the process of making a better installer and I will add the link to this message when my computer gets around to actually making the rwp.

Here's the link. You can install this with Utilities.exe

https://mega.nz/file/mqpDSSiY#rfNYksmRb008N1liFlwfj0oft_7LzGIXCvyJK-KC7Qc
It will be available until Monday evening

Not having heard anything, I will leave it a couple more days.

Thanks. Glad it worked for you. Not a genius, just 8 years of tinkering with this beast.
