Can't drive my train!

Unread postby William_Putnam » Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:18 pm

I have created a scenario in free-run mode, with the Challenger and 16 tanker cars at the San Bernardino yard.

I want to test to see if the Challenger is capable of making the grades over Cajon Pass with this consist.

I checked the driver pull-out, noting that the little box whereby I should check (to make me the driver in free-run) but noted that this box is faded-out. I presume this so, since I have already designated this scenario as free-runing.

Anyway, when I save and attempt to run the train, I have no control over throttle, reverser, or the brakes. F4 and F5 brings up the proper screens but no controls at all...

What am I doing wrong?

My bad! <embarrassment mode on> I had forgotten that I had changed to "simple" for driving (testing various ways to run a steam engine.)

So now, I can move my Challenger, backing it up to couple up to my 16 tanker car consist.

But before I get there, I get a derailment message, do to actions of an AI train.

But I am the only train in the yard!

I'm...so...confused... :)

No doubt you have done so, added the driver disc to your loco in the scenario editor...you also have to left click on the loco in the free roam game to enable you to drive it. I don't have the challenger but some locos require you also to drive in the expert mode for them to work correctly.

Thank you for your response.

But I did returned to the "expert" mode, and got the same derailment message!

Clicking on the loco gave me the control of the loco, yet as I backed-up to couple onto my consist, and before I could couple, the "derailment" message occurred!

I am very new into doing scenario modifications; I am at a very low learning curve... :)

I appreciate all the help I can get! :)

With your second issue,

Enable the "select whole consist button" in the scenario editor, now click on your train.

I'm going to assume all of the train wasn't highlighted, and I'm also going to assume that part of the train is inside another part. You can readjust the "broken" part so it comes together.

William

You must of had a post in waiting, as my post was 2nd to yours... *!!wink!!*
Okay, maybe your consist is "broken" . Broken can be a derailed wagon( especially across points ), a wagon inside another, not coupled correctly or possibly a ghost wagon ( one that you can see in the editor but is not really there in the game ).

You can check every wagon by looking, or splitting and re coupling or by using the whole consist radio button as shown below.

Open up your scenario, click radio button A and then left click once any wagon on your consist. The entire consist should highlight a darkiesh red as shown by B. If broken it should show where by only a part red. You can also left click and hold on any wagon and move the entire consist back and forth to see if it is okay.
Remember to uncheck your radio button when finished.

BINGO! Hitting that radio button and then clicking on my string of tanker cars, the last four cars did not turn red! A close examination showed one car telescoped inside another!

Correcting that situation eliminated the problem completely, and I am on my way to Barstow!

qrfan3, you are a gentleman and a scholar! Thank you so much!
