De-compiling scenario for study or editing

Unread postby OlPaint » Sat Jun 22, 2013 11:46 am

There have been many clever scenarios written for 3rd-Party routes. I have recently been frustrated by several scenarios that are not working as advertized on my version of Railworks. Moreover, either the original author is not available for me to consult or his scenario may so old that the author has lost his original design.

Is it possible to de-compile the several files that constitute a particular scenario to the original design code for study or editing? I am still dragging myself through the several scenario building tutorials that I have discovered on the various forums and am not making much progress. I still have lots of unanswered questions.

What route and what scenario?
I usually take the original scenario and clone it with RW Tools and make consist changes and resave the cloned scenario. Go into TS2013 scenario editor and you can edit it more to your liking.

Glenn

I am working with a Bay of Quinte scenario that was published by John McEwen over at the NERW forum. My copy of the scenario has a task list with errors in it, showing a bulk loading task at an incorrect Loader at an incorrect Track location. I want to see if I can edit it to the correct loader and location.

The scenario editor will allow you to do this. Use the timetable option and you will see the errors.

Guess what...John McEwen, who is the author of the Bay of Quinte scenario that I am having so much trouble with, suggested that I might have a obsolete copy of the route. He told me to get the Final version of BoQ from the RWA routes library. Low and Behold, the re-install was successful. The balky scenario is now running as designed. It was a bad route file all the time.

All is right with the world...
