Following Keith Ross's lead, I've been writing some shunting scenarios for his Scottish route using the BR Black 5 4-6-0 that comes with that route as the driven engine. At the beginning of a scenario, this engine automatically sets its brakes to 100%, which takes quite a while to bring back to 0%. I'm hoping that someone's discovered a way to start this engine off with about a 30% brake setting -- something, that is, which does not require editing the engine's programming.
