Using RW_Tools question.

Unread postby TheRealMike » Mon Nov 28, 2011 4:55 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forums and to RW_Tools in general. I cant seem to figure out how to move a second locomotive from the front of the consist to the back in RW_Tools, is it even possible?

If I understand the question properly, here's my answer... I tried adding loco's in the lead using RW_Tools and couldn't figure it out, and then the light went on and I realised that it's only neccessary to use RW_Tools to swap the leading loco because it's the only one with the scenario steps (whatever they're called) attached to it. Any remaining loco's can be simply be added/subtracted/moved around in scenario editor.

RW Tools will help you swap locos or cars in a consist, but it will not move cars or locos to another position within a consist. You can move cars and locos in the Scenario Editor of Railworks.

Thanks for the help. I already thought about adding one manually to the end of the consist in the scenario editor, but most of the routes are locked and can't be edited.

A trick for this... supposing you have a box at the end of train and want to "move" it the to middle: duplicate any item at the position you want to "move" the box and swap the duplicated item by the box, then delete the box at the end.

Use the same trick to "move" a second locomotive (which doesn't have instructions) to the other (back) end of train: duplicate the last car, swap it by the same loco asset, and delete the second original loco. In RW2_Tools you can't control the direction the new loco ("moved") is facing, but having lucky it will be facing a driveable direction. You can drive this "moved" second loco in any type of scenario, but this works better only in freeroam scenarios, because the Player (lead) loco (that holding instructions in standart scenarios) can't be deleted, once its instructions will be deleted with she.

The new locking route stuff is annoying in TS2012, I got to run around it doing this: select the route you want, go to Editor then Scenario Editor and create a new freeroam scenario with any name like "0123", unlock and save, nothing else. Go back to Editor open the route to edit (after you've created that false unlocked scenario, now you can edit the route), unlock the padlock in the route and save, nothing else. Now you can edit the route or any scenario of that route. Some routes/scenarios can't be edited anyway (like those of HSC, or any career system scenario, once they are very well locked). At any time, delete that false scenario "0123", or your list of freeroam scenarios will grow fast!

Start a scenario then hit your esc key and choose world editor, this will allow you to unlock the route and all the scenarios.

Actually, route locking has been around since Rail Simulator and persisted through all versions of RailWorks. Why? Probably to keep players from accidentally messing up a route. It is annoying, but, thankfully, easy to undo. Oddly enough, some DLC routes are not locked by default.
