Scenario - Marshall Function?

Unread postby MugHug » Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:04 pm

I have tried to look around the Internet but have been unable to find anything to explain how to use the 'Marshall' function in the Scenario Editor.

Can anyone explain it's purpose and how to use it or is there a link to the information?

In single words...

You can issue detailed instructions: couple to cars XYZ in Siding 1, decouple XYZ in Sidign 3, go via Siding 2 and Couple to ABC in Siding 4, decouple ABC in Siding 3, Couple ABC to XYZ in Siding 3. Driver consist is finally assembled.

Or you can give one single instruction (no intermediary shunting tasks): Marshall ABCXYZ in Siding 3 (no order); or Marshall ABXYZC in Siding 3 (especif consist order). Driver is free to choose the way to assemble (marshall) his consist (cars parked in Sidings 1 and 4) in Siding 3, via Siding 2, or Siding 5 etc.

Have fun!

Tends to work best if you can manually change the switches though... don't use it if the dispatcher is likely to lock anything.

Thanks for tip.

So much of TS2012 route, scenario etc. design seems like double-dutch and I am just surprised that RS have not provided more detailed manuals. Seems a painful slow process and having to be a Sherlock Holmes !!det!! on the Internet to try and track down the really important and relevant information. I seem to spend more time at the moment research then I do creating !*hp*!

At least sites like Railworks America and many here seem to fill in so much of the gaps left by RS *!!thnx!!*

Yep. I started with Scenario Editor in 23rd Sep. I lost (in fact invested) over then 30 hours digging by my own how things work, the bugs, and the weird AI Trains behavior, sometimes they look like AU (Artificial Unintelligent) Trains. !*roll-laugh*! Thankfully learning curve is growing up fast now, in the last 4/5 hours I finally got designed my first scenario with high detailed instructions. And.... it worked! !**duh*!! *!lol!*

I tend to make little scenarios to test out physics work, and just so I don't get bored I start adding things... and more things, and more things. Right now my test scenario for one little tank engine is 2 and a half hours long with 54 instructions and some AI trains dropping bits off for it... I guess it's still a good test!.

The Marshall instruction is explained very clearly in the RW Timetable Manual that comes with every version of RW. Although this manual has not yet been updated to cover the new functions available in RW3, marshalling is covered in section 4.2.4. As I often told my theatre students, when all else fails, read the instructions!
