Pop up instruction's window can be modified?

Unread postby Machinist » Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:05 pm

Hi all,

Unfortunetely, instruction window continues with the same and incomprehensible defects:
a) has a large minimum size, is unnecessarily big (despite of text being short or long);
b) pops up in the center of the screen hindering driver's vision;
c) takes about 20 (normal) to 30 (refueling) secs to auto close;
d) can be closed earlier, but user have to click with mouse on "X" button.

I've already seen diferent instruction's windows like Tutorial in Portsmouth Direct Line (RW2) and now in Horseshoe Curve (RW3). Then, it means that can be changed somewhere in scenario rule/files. Anyone knows if is really possible some changes? and how to modify instruction window, especially to:
1) have an auto adjustable size, according to text size, large enough to hold text inside without blank space?
2) at least, pop up in the top of screen, preferably in a more narrow and retangular shape, in order to not hinder driver?
3) be closed with a keyboard assigned to it? could be ENTER once ESC is already in use ( I guess not, this must be written in the undercore script).

I'd apprecite any trick or suggestion.
Thanks,
Lisboa.

So far I managed to minimize the problem. I found out how to make the instructions' screen (window) transparent, showing only the text (no more that soft grey background screen). !*drool*!

Go to the folder: (.....)\railworks\data\textures\frontend and rename "new_game_bg.tga" to "new_game_bg_ORIGINAL.tga"(*) (for example). So TS2012 will not find the background texture file, and then instruction's screen will be shown transparent.

For leave transparent F1 window as well, in the same "texture" folder rename file "frame.tga" to "frame_ORIGINAL.tga".(*)

Be aware that you'll loose a bit of contrast, once the color's letter is white, when the average background's color is light. Usually the text is over the rails, therefore is still quite readable. However, whether you don't like, just reverse the filename back to the default: "new_game_bg.tga" or "frame.tga".

Steam Platform will replace renamed files each "automatic updating" or "verifying files integrity".

All of this is by your own risk, though I'm sure is riskless. *!lol!*

Enjoy,
Lisboa.

(*) Edited later: names of new files, of course any other can be used at your discretion.

Bob Artim posted this on the NERW site: I was intrigued how some of the HSC scenarios had pictures of who was talking to you in the pop up message. Discovered an LUA script in the scenario folder and it uses trigger events to call up html pages and can issue "fly to" commands to zoom you around the area. I am going to see if I can do this. The LUA script language seems to be fairly simple, sorta like a batch file. See what happens.

Thanks for the information

This is a tempory solution but it does work with both screens above...

Come out with a fix as mentioned above, it will make the scenerios much more enjoyable...
