Scenario Specific Markers.

Discussion about RailWorks scenario creation.

Scenario Specific Markers.

Unread postby Railworks » Tue Jun 30, 2009 9:45 am

I notice a few people on different forums, claiming that this function does not work.

It most definately does and below is a quick piccie to show that it does.

Player train ( in piccie ), has already navigated through the two previous markers i placed ( marker one & marker two ).

You can see that the next destination set is "MARKER THREE", also scenario specific. *!!wink!!*

This is a very worthwhile fuction, as is the "Set Junction State At Scenario Start" function.

Very handy on the CSX Mainline route, as all junctions are manual. *!sad!*

A positive step forward in RW and as i am not interested in "Free Roam".

This makes "Standard Scenario" creation a little bit easier than it was in RS.

I'm fairly excited about this feature because with RS it's something to address every possible instance a player might do to create a scenario and get all those markers in place before the first scenario can be written. Good news to hear though I wasn't aware folks were already saying it doesn't work. Is this something you just did or did you find a trick/tip to make these work?

Hi Rich,

i have been using the feature since the release of RW on the 12th, mate. *!!wink!!*

I posted here with the info, because when posting on ukts and ts.com.

In reply to others not being able to use the feature, i was ignored.

Anyway their loss. :D

Myself i do a lot of "fiddling" to make sure the markers are saved.

Place the markers, F2 to save, then save again when asked.

Leave the editor and the game.

Re-start the scenario in the editor and carry on editing.

This has worked for me so far, so i have continued to do it this way. *!!wink!!*

The setting of the starting state of the junctions, seems to work without any undue messing around.

Thanks, so the issue with the Scenario Markers folks are saying is they don't save? And you have even exit the game to ensure they do? Gosh. Maybe I'm starting to like Steam after all! !*roll-laugh*! I just have to laugh because I have this other game, Age Of Pirates and Age Of Pirates 2 where the save game feature is really messed up. Anyway, if that's what does the trick that's a great tip! Thanks for letting me know.

No problem Rich, scenarios are about all i am capable of. *!greengrin!*

I can do routes, but they are rubbish ( no artistic eye ).

As for creating models or reskins...................no chance. *!!wink!!*

Perhaps you have either not seen or just misread the posts I have placed regarding Scenario Markers. It is not so much that they can't be placed. That works fine. Save them, come back, they are there. The issue is that if you place them, start to run the scenario, press the F2 key to save, exit the scenario, and then restart the scanario with the CONTINUE option, the markers can't be found. You get error messages. In other works, something is not saving the markers when you do an F2-SAVE_CONTINUE option.

Try this. Create a scenario in front of the San Bernardino Station. Place your engine on a track that has a diverging switch ahead. Place a marker on that diverging junction and then create s stop at instruction pointing to that user-placed marker. Start the scenario -- it starts. Do F2-SAVE and quit the scenario. Come back and run it using the CONTINUE option and it bombs out with error messages that it can't find the markers.

If some of you have figured out how to make this work, I would welcome any and all suggestions.

Think I'll quit and go drink some Garber Root Beer.

I note your username is "RailWorks". Are you one of the RW developers, and if so, is fixing CONTINUE on the agenda? I noted that it was still not fixed in the most recent update.

I downloaded the August 10th update to RailWorks and the F2 save and CONTINUE function still does not work with scenario markers. I hope someone fixes this soon. It is unfortunate when they introduce a new feature (scenario specific markers) that they don't work with a major F2 save and CONTINUE function we have counted on since the release of Rail Simulator for the development and testing of scenarios.
