Picking Decent Weather Presets

Unread postby NorfolkNE » Fri Jul 17, 2020 6:38 pm

One problem I've always had with making scenarios in TS is finding weather types that look the most photogenic or fix a specific atmosphere I want for a run, this especially goes for rainy and snowy conditions. Anyone have suggestions on routes (preferentially US/CA based ones) or ever 3rd party freeware packs that have good weather settings within. As an example, something like a heavy rain (or thunderstorm) that doesn't just just fade to a black wall of fog 200ft infront of the camera or a snow setting that is not whiteout-conditions but not a flurrie and it looks like actual snow and doesn't cut out every couple minutes. Even suggestions on good weather ('Party Cloudy' from Stevens Pass and most of the RW&A route weather settings come to mind) are welcome.

Yes I know Armstrong Powerhouse has a weather pack but I'm holding off buying it until I have a better PC (8GB and a rig from the early/mid 2010s doesn't get me very far).

It’s all mostly about the video card.

The best thing to do for this is to create a new free roam scenario on the route, don't add any rolling stock, and then just play with the time of day and specific weather presets until you find what you want. Select a weather/TOD setting, click play, then see what it looks like. If you don't like the look, just click escape->world editor -> scenario editor, and make a change. Repeat until you find the look you are aiming for.
