How do I save a consist when in scenario editor?
I can't find the info and yet I know there is a way to do it.
I want to save certain consists for future use, like a realistic looking auto rack for instance, or a player train for multiple scenarios.

One way to make a consist available for multiple scenarios is to create the consist in the quick drive tab. That will save to ConsistTemplates.bin in the Content folder and make the consist available in the editor under the Consist icon. You may in some cases need to activate the provider in the editor

I know there is a way to do it in the editor which saves the consist to the same file in the Content folder, but I have not had any luck with that.

Alternatively you can build a consist with RW_Tools and save it in an appropriate Preload folder and use for scenario creation by activating the appropriate provider in the editor.

EDIT: In the editor, build your consist, hold down the shift key to highlight all. Click the Consist icon just to the left of the driver icon. Boxes will appear above each item so continue to hold the shift key and click a box. A popout will appear on the left. Give it a name and hit enter. Note this is the point where I have a problem. My name never takes, it goes into the ConsistTemplate.bin as New Consist and will show up on the consist selection menu in the editor as New Consist. Everything then needs to be hand edited. However to test it I just made a consist of 4 BN boxcars that is re-useable. To use the consist in a different route I had to activate the provider/product (RSC\SD40BnPack02)

For a consist to be able in the editor all rolling stock has to be filtered in.

The consist name in the inset is tricky. To assure it gets recorded at the end of the ConsistTemplate.bin file, you have to click at the right of the name and press enter.

EDIT: Not only the QD Custom Consists are listed in the editor consist listing. All my Preload consists for the enabled DLC (filter) appear as well in the listing.

Yes, but I have not had good luck with that. Must not be holding my tongue right

Yes, that's been my experience too. I had originally thought the quick drive consists were always available but they must have the filter set. I used RW_Tools to make consists until recently so I am still stumbling around in the editor.

Its funny how we all want to do things that Kuju/RSC/DTG never thought about.

It means we're genius' and think out of the box.

Do you guys use the QD custom editor without any crashes? Kuju planned it to use it that way, but you know the results.
And yet there is people that is using it by following an invention procedure and that is crash-free (there may be more).
I learned it some time ago from some genius. I have about 40 consists, many manifest freights with more than 80 cars.

Yes, I use it for "quickies" and tests for new locos etc. I prefer to use RW_Tools for most consists, only because I am more comfortable with it and because it is easier to make AI consists. And recently I have made a few in the editor but that's still a learning experience for me. In the time that we have had the QD editor I have had 2 crashes. I was able to recover from one by editing the ConsistTemplates file

No-crash Custom Editor procedure:

1) Clear cache.
2) Restart TS.
3) Go to profile page and page through your locos and routes waiting for the portraits to load.
4) Then BEFORE trying to make a custom consist choose any preset consist and start a quick drive scenario.
5) Once loaded quit the QD scenario, then try to make a custom consist.

The first index (loading) takes a long time, but subsequently goes quicker.
After that no crashes, unless you have some damaged rolling stock.
Be patient while loading every item graphics. If the car or loco starts circling with no image, scroll left ot right and it will load.

I make several consists in the same session.
Every time you restart the game, it is advisable to repeat the procedure.
