derailed static loco and stock?

Unread postby Matchstick101 » Sun Feb 07, 2016 1:44 pm

is there a way to set a static loco and rolling stock off set from the track to make it look like it was derailed?

Do you have Doncaster Works DLC? It has burned out, wrecked, butchered or derelict British locos.

Obviously, there aren't any wrecked, burned, mangled US locos or cars that I am aware off.

In order to dump a loco or car besides the track, you need to make it a scenery item that doesn't snap to the rails anymore.

I believe RW_Tools has a function to make locomotive 'dead', but that probably isn't sufficient to put it anywhere as a scenery item.

I've never tried this, but I recall reading here that it's possible to position a hidden (slightly underground) section of track and then place a regular piece of rolling stock on it.

That could also work, but probably leaves the rolling stock standing upright. Unless you cant the track, though at some point it might fall over.

When trains derail in the game, they often end up in skewed, half buried positions, and have dying spasms until you quit the scenario.

yeah I may try the hidden track idea. My only worry is if the loco tips over the scenario ends do to AI derailment or would it not care as long as I don't place a AI marker on it?

Use the SH railfan track. It's invisible. For the derailed loco, (if it was an AEM-7) we could use the NYNH assets. They have an AEM-7 as a scenery object, and some amfleets, too.

Yup.I was messing around in SH and found out that there's a track called "railfan" and it's invisible.

An engine without a driver disc is treated as any other piece of rolling stock--and in your case, it can't become an obstacle for another train. I'd try the buried track, tilted, canted, whatever way you want your wreck to look like.

For rolling stock, use Golden Age's low-poly cars, unless the player gets to see then up close. They won't hit performance too much.
