Hello All,

I've recently purchased the 3dtrains ScaleRail addon for the Pacific Surfliner, and couldn't be happier. Only one problem, since it duplicates as a separate route, I cannot use downloaded scenarios from the steam workshop on it. Is there a way to copy the scenarios over from the original route over to the new one? The tracks are all in the same place, it just replaces them and changes a few buildings.

Are you sure that the PS route is "duplicated"? According to the 3DTrains web site, this is an add-on: "We're proud of this new upgrade, and we hope you enjoy this ScaleRail expansion to RSC's Pacific Surfliner route. " I very much doubt that RSC/DoveTail would allow anyone to sell what would amount to a coy of their route. Perhaps you're being confused by the fact that the PS route is, in some way or other, both a dependency of TS2014 and independent of it?

If you are correct about the duplication, copying the scenarios into the ScailRail version should work. First, you have to determine the ridiculously complex code designations of both route folders. The easiest way to do this is to use RW_Tools, which will also reveal in plain English the ridiculously complex code designations of the scenario folders you want to copy. Once you have all of that information, simply copy and paste.

Of course, whether any of this would be legal or not is another question.

The installer provided by 3DTrains actually makes a completely new route (ScaleRail Pacific Surfliner) and it is bundled with 7 Career Scenarios and 3 Free Roam Scenarios. The Career Scenarios appear to be copies of the 7 original Career Scenarios that were bundled with the RSC Pacific Surfliner DLC. Also, I understand that the ScaleRail version corrects several mis-aligned container loading cranes on the route sidings.

To be clear, the copy is created during the installation of the expansion - no Dovetail assets are included with the installer. The copy is needed so that if there's an update through Steam, folks won't have to reinstall the ScaleRail upgrade. As far as the container cranes, none have been changed - yet.

That's a truly brilliant strategy!

I've tried to copy the scenarios over to no avail. I don't see how this would be illegal, the scenarios are publicly offered through steam, and I've already paid the quite ridiculous cost of the route package. Since no one seems to be creating scenarios for the Scale Rail route, i would really appreciate being able to copy scenarios over. It has the same locations and everything, but none of the custom scenarios show up under the scale rail route.

Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it seems to work for me if I first run the scenario through RW_tools. Maybe there is something in the bin or xml file in the scenario that needs patching if you move it in order for RW to notice it and RW_tools makes that patch? Anyway this is what works for me:

The Pacific Surfliner route is in the folder starting with 00000027 and the ScaleRail version starts with b256a353.
I just copy and paste all the folders under 00000027-bla-bla/scenarios to b256a353-bla-bla/scenarios (choosing to overwrite any existing).
I fire up RW_tools and choose Scenarios->Edit Scenarios.
Highlight the ScaleRail PacificSurfliner route then highlight the subject scenario (like one just downloaded from the workshop) and press "Edit Selected Scenario" (some scenarios take a long time for the next window to pop up).
Without changing anything, I press "Save Changes to Scenario".
RInse and Repeat for any other scenarios I want to run.
Fire up RW and viola! The scenarios now appear under ScaleRail Pacific Surfliner.

Yes, this is a correct way to do it.
RW-Tools will write back the scenario file with the correct route ID.
Possibly the RW scenario editor could do this too, but I haven't tried it.
