Chicago Bound (Scenario)

Unread postby thecanadianrail » Sat Apr 13, 2013 9:51 pm

So im currently trying to make a scenario for Marias pass; this one you take a unique mixed train from Whitefish to Shelby. The train is lead by 3 ES44DC's on the head end and depending on how the scenario goes I might have to put another loco on the back end. The train is unique because the first 20 cars are flatcars with heavy machinery loaded on them, the rest of the train is a mix of mainly boxcars, centerbeams and tankcars making an 80 car train. The scenario uses other addons which are the BN/BNSF SD40-2 addon pack, and the SD70v2 pack. (or whatever one it is now that has the BNSF SD70's) For other trains you will mainly see Intermodal and grain trains; other trains will be autoracks and mixed trains, I would also like to try and fit a coal train in there somewhere too.

So what im having an issue with is that whenever I try and make a waypoint (aka via-whatever destination) it will not acknowledge that you got to it until the last car of the train passes over it? how do I change that so its the lead loco that triggers it, otherwise its quite a hassle to try and have messages for the scenario.

I am going to have it uploaded to the workshop, so I will not be having an Amtrak train in the scenario because the P42 isn't currently available; although once it is I will update the scenario to include it.

Also if anybody has any advice for the scenario I would greatly appreciate any recommendations or anything of the sort. I haven't thought of a name for it yet either.

300 minutes is a long time for any activity. Why not break this scenario up into several smaller sections?

Well its because I like to try and make things prototypical and thus is what a crew would go through in 1 shift from crew change to crew change. Plus I don't have much of a life so I can afford to do a 5 hour scenario !**duh*!!

Are your instructions to the destination markers set up as go via or as a flagged way point? Sometimes the flagged instructions do not work, don't ask me why.
As far as creating scenarios, your are the artist, it is your idea and you create what you want. If people don't like it, they do not have
to download it. Now, as far as creating for the workshop you best make sure that you do not have anything in your editor that RSC considers
third party or it will never be uploaded and published. Anything not on the current RSC DLC list is considered third party.

After testing part of the scenario out it seems like only the first destination marker is giving me the issue where it doesn't go off until the end of the train which gives a failed mark when you cross over it, the other markers seem to be working correctly though? I have only used the default Marias pass equipment, the SD40-2 BN/BNSF pack, and the SD70v2 pack in the scenario. I was going to add the dash9 but I didn't want to use too many items in the scenario. the average train length in the scenario is ~85 cars, with the longest being 120 cars and the shortest being around 50 cars. I think I will upload it soon after I put the final touches on it.

Ok I have ran into a major issue, it seems the scenario has started the train half way through the scenario but starting at the starting time of the scenario, but AI trains have already moved? has anybody ran into this problem and is there a quick fix for it? please help!

Did you mess around with the scenario tester at the bottom right corner of the scenario editor? That usually causes problems like that.

Well after the original scenario having a very bad bug where it makes you start half way through the scenario I have decided to redo it into a V2. Its up on steam right now, look for Chicago Bound V2 Part 1. I split the scenario into 2 parts because making the AI do what I want 5 hours ahead is kinda difficult. Part 1 takes you from Whitefish to Essex where the loaded flatcars will be inspected for any movement in the unique loads. this scenario is similar to the first in your consist as you start off with 3 ES44DC's on the head end, there are only 15 flatcars this time and all of them are excavators. the rest of the train is mainly finished lumber products plus a string of empty tank cars. Have fun and report any bugs you find.
