Quick question regarding realism

Unread postby The_Garbear » Fri Jul 13, 2012 10:43 am

I enjoy making scenarios for this game and I'm by no means a rivet-counter, but I do like my scenarios to at least be plausible. This brings me to a couple of questions I've been curious about. What types of consists would I generally see on Horseshoe Curve (Both modern and with the included stock) and Cajon Pass, and what would be the typical quantity and distribution of power? And what would the frequency be of each type of train (i.e. for every double stack train, how many mixed freights, coal, TOFC, etc)?

If one looks at Youtube video's for Cajon you typically see 4-5 engines up front and one-two in the back. As far as Horseshoes is concend I would think that it would be the same. Although listening in on Railroad Radio.net the grade on Horseshoe requiers helpes to push the train up the grade.

Yeah, I read on the Wikipedia page for Horseshoe Curve that NS uses pairs (and sometimes pairs of pairs) of SD40-2s as helpers, which is convenient because I have an NS skin for the SD40-2. And that's typically the setup I used on Cajon with the ES44, three or four at the front, a pair in the middle and two or three at the end, so I wasn't too far off there.
