What, exactly, is happening? Is the derail occurring as the AI engine crosses a switch? Does it derail because it has run back into the cars it just dropped? What does its path look like on the 2D map or in the editor?
One of the things to keep in mind about AI traffic is that once an engine has dropped off part or all of its consist, it no longer "knows" that what it dropped exists. As far as the engine is concerned, the track where it just made a drop-off is absolutely clear. Unfortunately, that isn't really the case and some absolutely spectacular crashes can occur--or just a derailment.
Always remember that AI traffic is anything but intelligent: in fact, it's dumber than a box of ballast. The intelligence has to come from the scenario writer.
