Rich Garber scenario's

Unread postby DaveS » Mon Apr 19, 2010 4:12 pm

Rich, I've run 4 scenario's so far and they're great. Not a single problem has come up, and the signals actually work the way they should. Kudo's to you... **!!bow!!**
Also how's the big route coming along ??

Fort Kent to Eagle Lake is fantastic, especially with the scenarios Rich added on. I agree, kudos, Rich! !!*ok*!!

Thanks guys. Sorry that I didn't see this thread sooner. Doing some behind the scenes backdoor dealing and some personal stuff it's been keeping me busy. The scenario situation is changing and here's the current plans. Before I can do anything though I got to fix one of the scenarios. All the scenarios were well tested before release but I made a last minute change to #48 with one of the AI trains and didn't catch that it changed the path. Turns out the poor chap is running smack through the Ft. Kent yard and there are freight cars in the way. Oops! But the real story here is with Steam taking its position that add-ons to add-ons would be confusing I thought the best way to get the scenarios with CN equipment is... you're gonna laugh... !*don-know!* ... was to purchase the Fort Kent route myself !**conf**! so I could get access to the CN loco and make a second version of the scenario set #41-56 and release it as well. I can't release the loco though as its not mine to release so this is for the folks that bought the Steam version only. For now. I don't understand why this engine isn't a part of their existing CN equipment pack. ANYWAY... the big problem I'm having now is just how to package this. The last thing I need is folks who don't have the Steam version of Fort Kent getting a hold of this set and installing it or they'll get errors and holler at me cause they didn't buy the Steam version. But it's ready to go, just gotta figure out how to release it.

But let me ask you guys. Are you seeing that all the things people have been saying can't be done, can be done? When you get to the second half of the scenarios you will see. But know this, it wasn't easy. Downright frustrating at times but most of what I wanted to do, I did get done.

Good morning, driver! !*salute*!

I think one great thing about Railworks is you can get add on's from just about anywhere and install them. Some work fine, others have a couple of bugs. At this point, I have not run all the scenarios in Fort Kent (crap, you added 16 to the ones already there! ) so I don't know if there's any new bugs in there. But, with the work you do, I'm sure it's minor stuff.

I think working with Steam is going to be problematic, given all the grief they got from the people that were complaining about Railworks spamming with new DLC all the time. !*not-ok*!

Here's what I did:

#48 is fixed so use your receipt and re-download the install again.

And...

Both scenario sets are updated with the fix. The new receipt comes with both links listed 1) for All Aboard purchases and 2) one for Steam purchases of the Fort Kent route.

Oh, Chris, if you could post on the Steam forums the Steam version of the scenarios are available I would appreciate it. I gotta bunch of editing to do to the site to get this up and going. I hope you don't mind. Thanks!

Hi, Rich. I created a post about the updates, the Moderators may or may not take it down, since it's basically advertising. We'll have to see. They generally leave us "rail heads" alone tho. *!!wink!!*

Crap, now I have to figure out which pile of notes has my receipt scribbled on it. !**duh*!!

Thanks Chris, very much appreciated! !!*ok*!!

Don't worry about the scribbling note, I had planned on resending the receipt with the changes on it to everybody who already purchased a copy of the scenario pack so everybody has the same receipt. You should have your shortly if not already.

Running great so far, Rich. I hope I was supposed to delete the other expansion, because I did. !**conf**!

Yes, that's the safe way to do it, uninstall first and then reinstall. !!*ok*!!

Let me know when you guys get to the later scenarios.

I had an interesting discussion today from a fella who posts frequently about my scenarios and he said something that to me was just what someone should say. He said essentially, "seems like work." That was the idea behind these scenarios. It's interesting because when I did MSTS my activities were more like puzzles. In Railworks it's hard to create puzzles because if the player goes off-path, there's that 60 second countdown and then the scenario ends. I hate that with a passion. An engineer should have the final say how he gets his engine where he needs to go.

Rich, there's a way to turn off that 60 sec. off path thingy. I'll look around and get back to you.

My biggest gripe with Rail Works has always been, and always will be, the map. I can shunt just fine, if I can find the darn sidings and switches! I don't mind puzzles at all, just give me a better map. **!!2cents!!**

BTW, like I said before, Rich, fantastic job! !!*ok*!!
