To get the rolling start feature to work, you need to do a few steps.
1) Firstly, build the scenario in its entirety. I say this, because once you enable the rolling start process, you can't just go back and tweak/change instructions within the scenario very easily.
2) Once you have set up all of your player and AI trains and instructions, select the scenario icon in the editor and check the box for 'rolling start'
3) Save the scenario (F2).
4) Press the big 'play' button in the bottom right of the scenario editor. This will load the scenario, and your player loco will start in its default state. For most locos this is idling, reverser in neutral, and with the brakes applied.
5) Bring the player train up to the state you want it to be in when the scenario starts. IE: release the brakes, and bring the train to the speed, and controls position that you want it to be in when the scenario starts.
6) Press " Control " and the "F2" keys. This will bring up a dialog box asking if you want to save the rolling start. Press yes.
You can now exit the scenario, and the next time you load the scenario to drive it, the train will be at the original start location you had it placed at in the editor, but in whatever state it was at when you pressed Control F2.
Because the player train is now starting from a roll, you may find that AI train timings, or other events are now happening at a schedule you do not want. If you want to edit anything within the scenario again, you have to first open up the scenario's folder and delete the files: 'startingsave.bin' and 'startingsave.bin.MD5'. Then, after making the adjustments/edits to the scenario, you will have to go through steps 2-6 again.
I hope this helps.
