TS' Norfolk Southern N-Line brake physics

I recently brought Train Sim's Norfolk Southern N-Line route because the origin point is in my hometown of Salisbury, NC. So far I'm loving the route but I have noticed that the brake physics are a bit wonky. You never really go above 25 mph on the route and yet the train air brakes are almost non-existent. I'm having to stop my train with the Dynamic brakes, which I thought was supposed to be ineffective at low speeds. Sometimes I can't even use the train air brakes to hold my train in position on a hill.

Is anyone else having this kind of problem?

I substituted Searchlight Simulations SD40-2s for sounds and physics. I did have issues with both original power.

Braking is a big problem and the dynamic brake is usually ineffective below 15 mph but not on the N line where it seems to be effective right down to below 8mph and short of going into reverse thrust the only way to stop.
Swapping the physics might be the way but how is it done?

That's what I'm wondering, if there is a way to edit the brake physics of the GP38-2.

I’d love to know too, I’ve Had the same experiences and that’s really the only thing bugging me about the route, love it otherwise.

Any other thoughts/advice on this? I’d love to dig in and try to add some brakes but don’t know where to start.

I think it might be in the simulation files somewhere. I’ll go look and report back if I find anything. Where’s our Searchlight guys when we need them? Prolly working on the finishing touches on you all know what.

No interest in cleaning up DTG's mess with these, not to mention the AC44 and Fallen Flags SD40-2 set take precedence.

The problem the N-Line stock suffers from is due to the poor brake scripting they did. One would have to replace the entire bin file with something standard to work around it.

Great minds. Or at least yours. I replaced to GP38-2 Engine bin file in total in the Simulation folder. I used the one from The Race Track GP38-2. Note we're talking the simulation folder not the Engine folder. It seems a big improvement to me. Someone else give it a go and let me know what you think. Just take the original and add .xx to the end. Then take and copy and paste the one from one of the other GP38-2's into the N-line GP38-2 Simulation folder and see how it works. Re-start required for it to take affect.

I tried Buzz’s suggestion and used the Racetrack GP38-2 exactly as his post and it is definitely better. Thanks Buzz for a practical solution that even dimwits like me can follow.

I don't have the N-line yet, but dynamics at least in real life, should work in any speed. On my railroad, the weir has a speed limit of 5 mph. I've used dynamics coming down the 2% grade off the weir to keep my speed at 5mph until the rear of the train is off it.

I know that the sim isnt is as real as we want it. Just saying that the speed shouldn't effect whether or both dyamics work

Hi everyone, I am new here, and a I would like to know in which section to upload a file that fixes the brakes for the GP38 on the N-line, and at the same time still works with the career scenarios. The ones from The Race Track prevent the career scenarios to work normally, giving an error message that could be skipped with F2, but then the stats are not recorded at the end.
