Need some help with the Union Pacific Challenger - Replenishing water.

Unread postby jack72 » Mon Apr 15, 2019 12:03 pm

Trying to run the Union Pacific Challenger but cannot replenish water.
When I get down to about 75%. I press the button to put water in the tank from the HUD,
The volume falls but the tank doesn't fill.

So I looked to do it manually,
I tried to see if there was other valves that should be open, but going into the cab, there doesn't seem any valves that relate to the water injection.
There is a valve that pulls out when I want to add water and it is labeled as the Fireman's Steam injector. Also, their is a valve to open the blower.
I have noticed there is a turn valve called Cylinder Cocks as well, but cannot turn it. (I also tried pressing C, but there is no relief).

But cannot seem to locate any valve for water?

Does someone know of a fix for this?

Here's a place to start. I haven't run this thing in a long time. Do you have the RSC one?

I'm off today so I just cranked her up and on the flat with 20 cars hooked to the beast I ran it up to 65 mph and both the water and the fire increased without a problem. Throttle at 65% and reverser at 20%.

Had this for a while...not sure if it is the RSC one.

The scenario I am playing is a workshop one.

Even standing still, with the reverser at 0, The water doesn't go to the boiler.....
Turned it on, and the volume decreases, but the boiler still continues to lose water, like it wasn't flowing.

I would uninstall and reinstall. Something is obviously amiss since it works here.

It actually is working...the percentage number in the HUD keeps going down, but when I press Alt F4(5) to get all the vital numbers showing on the top left, the percentage does increase and are different then the HUD.
For some reason, eventually the HUD numbers start to increase and match after a while.....very strange.

This is the old doubleheader bug. This scenario has the Challenger hooked up to a diesel loco not sure of the make. I didn't think it would happen between a steamer and a diesel but it seems to. You have to run this with auto fireman on for the boiler to fill even then it is not 100% accurate as I have run out of water double heading steamers. Another issue with double heading with a diesel is that you cannot move the regulator without closing the throttle first.
