I have a friend who wishes to switch to TS 2018. He's sending me the info on the computer he bought recently. If he does not have enough memory on his computer to run it, can he install it and then run it on a external drive? I'm thinking one of those externals of say 2 TB.

I think he should just use a external. I don't know what all he plans on doing. I have mine installed on my computers D drive which has 2 TB on it. So far I've barley tapped it (1.60 TB of free space left) I have around 140 GB on data on my sim.

Put another drive inside the computer would be the best option like I did.

If you are talking about a SSD for the external drive it should work just fine. Just Google running games on a external drive.

You can run TS2017 off a SSD or other external device of sufficient capacity and speed.

You need to make sure though that every computer you intend to plug the external into, has the required pre-requisites.
You'll find these inside the Install folder under your main Railworks folder.
And of course, every computer you intend to run Railworks on needs to have the Steam software installed and your account configured.

My friend got the sim up and running without any issues. He's exploring what it can all do. He does not think he'll have a huge amount of routes, rolling stock, engines, etc so he thinks he should be OK.
