Tilt in curving track: how to do that ??

Unread postby Mazherman+75 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 7:34 pm

Is it possible to tilt a track to accommodate the speed of a train in a curve ? I have had some derailments due to a flat (horizontal) track in a curve. A lower speed prevents this, but that is not very realistic.

The video made by NDORFN is very clear on the subject of "tilting". Thank you very much; now I can work on the curved tracks the proper way.

I didn't make the video. I just googled it and posted it here. I think it's the one I used to learn how to lay track.

Now I have a question about tilting a double tracked route.....? I tried this using the easement but that results in a mess. Also copying a tilted track and placing it next to the original one does not work. Anyone has an answer to this ? Please....

Are you asking about converting a previously laid section of double track?

If so, this is extremely difficult, unless the track was originally put down with easements.

If you are asking how to lay new double track for super-elevation: in general you must use the track tool to lay both lines simultaneously. The radii of the curves will differ slightly so copy/ paste will always result in a misalignment coming out of the curve.

Keep in mind that any curve that is to have super-elevation needs easements or the track will be rendered with (and be simulated with) a nasty kink.

Thanks for the reply Barnez. My question was about tilting in a new scenario and I have come to the conclusion that laying down new double tracked rail lines is simply not possible. Again, thanks.

Couldn't you lay them as single line and duplicate them on the straights? That's what I do when I need a parallel track with a slightly different setup to its sister.
