Neat Track Laying trick

Unread postby SCLALINE » Tue Nov 27, 2012 5:06 am

Hey All, (Moved to route Design)
has anyone laying track remember the fiasco using the setting "Snap To Terrain"? well i don't know if anyone has tried it since TS2013 has come out but i decided to experiment on a section of my route that actually has some hills, they are subtle but if you look at some photos in Florida the track kind of rolls, well i was able to achieve it tonight and without drastic track gradients

if you already know this let me know

Lay track in 50-100-150 meter sections using snap to terrain on, yes it will look weird but wait, i only do this on straight sections so far but i place a marker (3dObject) where i start laying and i usually lay a half a mile track, then select the section of track up to the marker you have laid, then use the gradient smooth feature, people may know this but WOW
the grades follow the terrain, some are .5% up to 1.9% and the trains run smooth with no unusual jerking, wished this was out when i first started this route, but this was the critical area so i'm not too worried
screenshots later

and past the 200 mile mark now

I've started using the smoothing tool on traffic ribbons. Works really well!
