Rattlesnake Ridge Reborn

After the long dead original Rattlesnake Ridge I decided to start a new one.

This one will be much better then the original since learning a little more since then. First, before when creating my mountains I didn't set it to a large enough width, so they developed a unreal point, they won't no longer have that point any longer.

The route will be big, but the majority of it will take place on canyon railways, very similar to the Grand Canyon railway in Arizona and set around scenery like Mexico and New Mexico, more like New Mexico in the skin. Will have a lot of cacti, but very little trees.

Here's the first two screen shots. And this time the route starts from a small train camp far out in the west away from any town.

The hardest part would have been the journey to civilization and taking on the mountain in order to do so.

Haven't yet decided what time frame to set it in. Thinking of 1890, but the only problem is is it's not easy to get ahold of horse and wagon models for the route without jumping through hoops.

A little more progress on the new Rattlesnake Ridge route, the route will be set in 1885. And will represent some of the extreme mountain railroads from the past. Thee route will put the user at the edge of their seat in otherwards.

Them thar is mountains! Will look stunning when you get it scenicked.

I like the way you added the talus slopes at the base of the great cliff. Big difference in realism between your image 1 and 2.

The old Rattlesnake Ridge route, which I deleted long ago.

And the new and improved new Rattlesnake Ridge route. Which I'm currently building from the ground up.

Because in the past for engineers that ran on mountains like these, they would have always been at the edge of their seats as they slowly guided the train through the winding mountains.

As I look at your work on RR, I'm minded of John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid Railroad.

I don't suppose you have the insane desire to take this and run it down to the sea as well as the great mountain stuff you're showing us? *!!wink!!*

Not sure yet, is there a sea in New Mexico?

I guess then that I probably will connect the route to the sea.

Keep in mind though that this is a fiction route, it's modeled after some of the desert area in New Mexico and Arizona as well as some of Texas.

As well, here's some progress. Got another area added on, and slowly the route climb's a 2% grade.

And right beside this cliff will be the canyon stretching further around where a ancient river would have at one time ran.

So, what do you think of the mountains so far.

Also, does anyone know how to get rid of this haze created by RW?

Mountains are great so far, even as are right now.... A short route (say 30miles) would be more than enough to leave your heart pounding and hands shaking due to the rails so close to the deep precipices.

The haze can be set on TOD, Time of Day blueprints file, of the route. Some haze helps on save fps. But take in account that when playing a scenario even the yard view (number 7or 8) doesn't go so far as you are showing in the pics.
