Monon railroad route possibility?

Unread postby Unoriginal » Thu Sep 21, 2023 8:39 am

I don't know if this is the right area to post this, but what would everybody think about the idea of having a monon route for the sim?
If anyone was going to make something monon I think the best candidate would be high iron and his team (I have mentioned this idea to gary in PM's, but I wouldn't be surprised if he never saw it.)

For the people wondering why I picked high iron, I assume gary has a thing for the monon based off some of the books he's made, and since DTM is apart of the team he kinda has all the locomotive models ready for it (F3, BL2, and he could edit his SW1200 into an NW2 and his B36-7 into a U23B). High iron routes tend to be pretty good anyway, definitely above the quality of the average made in house by dovetail. The midwest area also seems to be an area of the US that seems to be missed out on a lot.

Just my thoughts I guess...

Having grown up with the Monon (and yes, co-authored a book on the railroad), I do have a special interest in the Monon. Nothing in the present plan, but always in mind.

The Monon Route made for MSTS / Open Rails, is legendary. It has stood the test of time. That will be a tough act to follow. My **!!2cents!!** .

Except for those of us who have never had nor have any interest in MSTS.

Can agree with this, it's one of the best routes that I've ever used in open rails. I think a new version of that route (albeit cut down to be way shorter) could work well in TSC.

Think of it as the "Bergen Route" by Minerman, of MSTS /Open Rails. Took many Years to build, many goodies to be found everywhere, extreme attention to detail. Gave a person a real Train Simulation experience. Sorry, but I did spend time, over on the "Dark Side" (MSTS), before I saw the light.. *!!wink!!* !!**sorry**!!

We all owe a debt to MSTS as it showed there was a market but MS failed to keep up to it. Thankfully KUJU, RailSimulator and others embraced and enhanced the concept with improved graphics. MSTS runs on much lower specs and is still the major choice for much of the world, but not in my yard.

MSTS is basically dead now. There are places you can still get it legally but it's extremely hard to get it running on modern PCs, and the experience is basically not worth it either. For the one other person that has actual interest, if you wanna play msts just get open rails.

As for the monon again, they had some unique kinds of cars, they bought former US army troop sleepers and turned them into cabooses and baggage cars. I don't think anyones ever done troop sleepers for TS though. They had some unique kinds of passenger coaches as well.

Might I also add, the liveries on the F3s were some of the best ever on any F-units.
