Route Markers not showing during route design

Unread postby jgvaughan » Sat Oct 20, 2018 12:04 pm

Okay, I used RW_Tools to create the route folders. Then I went into Google Earth and create some marker files. From there I used RW_Tools utility to create RouteMarker files and place them in the RouteMarker directory of my route.

I verified that my assets are marked to be available.

I then ticked the Route Markers box in the Track flyout at the lower left of the screen.

When I click on the round button in the Compass flyout not shows in the flyout that comes up in the upper right side.

I've read through and watched several tutorials including the ones based around Route Creation using RW_Tools, etc. and I have done everything multiple times to make sure I'm not making any mistakes. So I figured I'd come here to the experts and see if there was something I may be overlooking and not realize.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Okay, I imported the Route Markers from Google Earth using RW_Tools. Then I created the new route. That's the only change I have made but now I see the Red lines (color I chose in RW_Tools) but I don't see any of the point names and they still don't show up in the Route Marker flyout.

Any suggestions on why I'm not seeing the point names?

Your assistance is appreciated.

Mr. Vaughan, Read this carefully it may not work the first time. I don't use RW_Tools, so I can't tell you how to do this using that tool. First you need to know what you are dealing with and that is "NamedGPSMarkers". You need to make a GPS Marker Set blueprint within the RouteMarkers folder of the Source folder using the Blueprint Editor (rename this file to something more related to your route), and remember, in this case you only need to be concerned about the "NamedGPSMarker" and its CSV file which I assume you have already made. You need three pieces of information in regards to the CSV file, Longitude, Latitude, and Location Name respectively for each Location and each has to be separated by a comma and one line per each set of three. So, each location has a separate line. This CSV file will be accessed by the Blueprint Editor when processing, so it needs to be in the Source folder under RouteMarkers along with your "GPS Marker Set" xml. Highlight the CSV file in the Source folder in the BP Editor and right click it and COPY, then move to the slot under the "NamedGPSMarker" named "CSVFile" and PASTE the link, all done with data entry so SAVE your file. Now, right click the GPS Marker Set blueprint xml and choose Export with References. If all goes well you should have the proper files showing within your RouteMarkers directory and when you go to the simulator these locations should show in the Compass dropdown.

If I forgot something, please anyone, feel free to correct.

Yep, sorry, I should have been more specific. My Named Markers are working. I'm talking about Series Markers in this case. I'm not seeing the point names on the map or in the flyout. The Named Markers show in the flyout but the Series Markers don't.

If I'm expecting something that isn't supposed to be there, that's fine. I just expected them to show similar to the Named Markers.

I believe Series Markers only show as a colored line on the surface of the terrain. These were used as an early form of track mapping, so yah, you won't see these in a list, anyway, not that I know of. I think they were also used with the flag marker objects.

Okay, cool. I do have the colored line so that's fine. So everything is working the way it is supposed to.

Thanks!
