Curious if anyone has also had problems trying to get the API key to work in the RE today. (October 10th 2018)

I have been trying since this morning on and off with no luck.

Two other friends with TS say they can't get theirs to work as well.

Any possibility that the weather down in Florida is messing with a server??

I never did update my API with Google when the new restrictions went into effect. No API has been entered under settings. The key has always worked. I'm told the API is built in for TS and DTG pays Google... Any truth to that? And if that's good info, will TS 2019 have the API built in as well?

Well 1:15 AM where I live. API still not working.... I have been trying since 8 AM yesterday morning. According to the Google Cloud for my API, it's enabled and I'm using the correct API for the setting on the sim. All I'm getting are the blue circles spinning around for ages with no overlay. I'll try yet again later in the morning. I never got any info from Google about the new policy for the API. Was I even supposed to get any type of notification from them? Also, Google has not asked me to open account so they can change my CC if I go over the usage limit. I'm hoping it's just a internet issue. One of my friends said he could not get much of anything to work internet wise yesterday and he lives about 30 miles South of me. We both use the same company. Good ol Comcast.

I got my notification in July (pictured below). It would get sent to the google email address associated with your API dashboard. They won't come to you asking for a CC, they would just (allegedly) deactivate the API. Its up to you to sign up if you choose to. Many here have been working around this without entering payment info, as has been noted in several recent threads.




I just checked, and my overlay is working, so hopefully its just a connection issue for you.

As of 8 AM this morning the API overlay still does not work..... Comcast says my connection is OK and the modem is working properly. They said to contact Google. Google says the API is good and enabled and should work AND to contact my internet provider. The "not our fault routine".

So, what could be causing the API not to work if internet and Google can be ruled out? Looks like it may be sim related or something with my computer......

Doesn't work for me.

Wasn't working before.

Removed my API key as suggested in an earlier post and it worked.

I have tried with and without the API key. Nothing. Overlay for other routes I have the DEM for not working as well. Last Time I used the RE before yesterday was October 9th and it worked then so been like this for a little over a day now.....

Meant that worked after removing the API key and now it doesn't work.

Yes, in my first post I said I had been using the overlay in the RE without a key and up till Oct 9th, it was working. You are the 4th person now I've talked to last day and half reporting the overlay no longer works. So if this thread is going to go back and fourth with people saying it works/does not work, I 'll need some input on what is causing it to work for some and not for others.

OK...Well Steam is updating now to TS 2019. Perhaps that is why the overlay has not been working. Guess I'll find out in another 5 minutes..... I just hope this "improved" update works OK. With all the hype DTG has dished out about TS 2019 it would make some very cautious and skeptical.

I added my payment info back in July and have not had an issue since then. I also use GE a lot in my route building, and have not seen any of my monthy usage get anywhere close to the point where I would get billed anything.

I can't speak for those running without an API key.

Yep, Update done and overlay still AWOL. Well, with 2019 I don't see that much of a change so far. Didn't lose any files with the update. With the exception of the overlay issue everything else is working like it should. It does load a bit faster on start up.

Google has been warning about the "free" API key for a while. My ADSB mapping programs are having issues too.

The Google API key is working fine for me in both the 32bit and 64bit version of TS2019.
