Asset block issue

Unread postby SAR704 » Sun Jan 28, 2018 6:22 am

For some reason, asset blocks I have placed have been disappearing when navigating around the place in the world editor. It tends to occur as I approach them on the mainline.

This is the view prior to moving north a little bit.

And after I move the camera.

Is this due to some issue with the 2D trees I'm using? It seems to be more common with larger asset blocks, which basically forces me to place short ones parallel to the track, which takes up more time. They are 'irregular' ones btw.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Isn´t that due to a low Level of Detail of the block?

I recently came across the same issue on my route. After extensive testing I have come to believe that this happens when you make an irregular block with a corner with a very acute angle. Moving your in game/editor camera along the block would cause the entire block to appear and disappear depending of the viewing position relative to the acute angle on the block.

I found that if I remade the block with more obtuse angles, that the problem did not occur.

For what it's worth, I never experienced this issue once in the first few thousand hours of route work, only now after the TS2018 update. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not.

Thanks for the info regarding this. The reason that I don't use standard asset blocks is because I prefer to place the trees in the positions they exist in the actual imagery from GE. I don't like having a block of trees in a spot where there's only grass, with empty space 25 metres away where there's actually trees.

However, I will look into this to see if I can address this annoyance. It's been occurring since last year, and should (in my opinion) be addressed by DTG.

Try making your irregular asset blocks with more obtuse angles. That has been working for me.

I've run into the same issue many times. You can eliminate most of the disappearing problems by copying and pasting the block and then delete the original. Works 100% here. :D
Cheers!
