Questions For Route Builders...

Unread postby ET44C4 » Fri Dec 08, 2017 4:39 pm

I had a few questions that I would like to ask to those who build routes.

1. Is it possible to add more terrain textures to a custom route? I am using the PennCoal template, and I would like some concrete textures from the Barnez Chicago Racetrack route to add to my route. If so, how might I go about doing this?

2. Would it be possible to change the lighting in a route? I am using the PennCoal template, and I dislike the fact that the assets and terrain appear brighter than they should be. What I said doesn't make much sense, so let me try to explain. I have dynamic lighting disabled. On my route, it uses the RSC NS Coal District template. The assets, especially the 3DTrains roads, are very bright. I would like to somehow change the lighting effects to another route like Portland Terminal so my assets and terrain textures don't appear so bright. I can try to explain further if necessary.

When you are in the world editor just go check the Racetrack and the textures will show up for you to use. As far as the lighting I'll leave that to one of the lighting tinkerers.

I already have the Barnez route checked and a large selection of other routes. The only terrain textures in the fly-out box are from the PennCoal route. !*don-know!*

For the lighting, here is an example from my route. The roads really glow and the terrain is brighter than how I would like it. I love the lighting in the G-TraX routes, which is what I would love to have in my own route.

You have to have it out of the .ap for it to work. I just tested it and it works for me. The stuff from the race track is in procedural and has the prefix CD.

Everything was unpacked, but was set to "Read Only" so I will go back and check to see if disabling the read only attribute worked.

No success, unfortunately.

Just to be clear, we are talking about the terrain textures in the Painting Tools-Paint Terrain sections of the world editor, correct?

The textures are in Barnez/BNSFChicago\Environment\Terrain

Could I edit any files to make the route read the Barnez textures as well? The terrain textures just aren't showing in-game for some reason. !**conf**!

For the lighting, would it be possible to alias the Time of Day to Portland Terminal in the RouteProperties.xml?

Alright, I swapped out the Summer, Autumn, Spring, and Winter .bins with the Sacramento North TimeOfDay files and I now have the right atmosphere I was looking for.

I am still having some trouble trying to get the terrain textures to show up properly. I edited the PennCoal Terrain.bin instead of making my own as described in the link by copying the specific text from the BNSFChicago terrain.bin and pasting it inside. That did not seem to work.

Is the texture bin you edited the one listed in your route’s property XML?
Cheers!
