Another ReDem question

Unread postby TDHenderson » Thu Feb 24, 2011 3:13 pm

Alrighty then, so after I am done with Phase 1 of my route project I want to keep expanding the route to include other parts of the city and surrounding areas. I am thinking up a strategy to test on a backup of the route and would like the experts opinion on my theory.

1. Use the original starting coordinates from the original run of ReDem used to create the original route.
2. Take the original .csv marker file used to create the terrain tiles for the original route and add in the values in the .csv files from the 4-5 other marker files I need to create for the additional areas. This will make one big combined .csv to have ReDem process.
3. After ReDem processes the new files I can compare the ones I have modified so far in the original route and just add in the new ones that were created.

Does this sound like I am heading in the right direction?

Very complicated. *!greengrin!*

Have you modified the original Dem tiles in the world editor? If not you could just make all the Tiles new (with the additional ones) and then overwrite the existing with ReDem.

Another idea:
Create a Marker(path) from the location where your original path ends. Now create the Tiles with ReDem and just select the option "overwrite".
So ReDem will add the new tiles to the existing ones and overwritethe ones that would be double.
But this also means that the changes that you've made to the Terain in the world editor which fall into that double parts get lost.

i hope this can help you. !*salute*!

Yes it does. I guess my experimentation will tell for sure. Will share what I find.

Reviving this topic since it's similar to my question. I found one area that needs to have at lest one more terrain tile added. Is this method the best to do so or is there a safer way to make sure my changes are not overwritten? The tile in question isn't near the track but is needed because the terrain is higher and you can actually notice a mountain sliced off right next to it. When I initially set up the terrain I went out 4 tiles but guess I needed just one more in this area.

I was thinking of just making a single marker at the location and using redem to make a couple tiles there?

What I have done on my route to so called fix this issue is just create it in the world editor and shape it using the existing tools instead of risking ruining all of the hard work and hours put into it. If it's not right next to the track then any imperfections won't show at a distance. I used the leveling tool right next to where I wanted to create a new terrain tile and just drug it out into "oblivion" to start the creation process. Just a though. !*salute*!
