Virginia & Truckee Railroad

Unread postby dleeboy » Fri Aug 05, 2016 2:57 am

Virginia And Truckee Railroad is a scenic Railroad located in the Nevada Mountains near Virginia city Nevada.

I made this route for myself many years ago. But I made it with many assets too many to get. So I am making it from scratch again. This time for the Workshop. And I have learned so much since then. I have the Gold Hill part almost finished but that is all. The complete route is around 24 Miles long. I will finish the Gold Hill to Virginia City section first around four Miles long.

This route will be some time in the making. I am also making a Narrow gauge route that is not for the Workshop but to be uploaded here at this site someday. It is the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad located in New Mexico and Colorado. I am also learning how to play the Guitars so all of these projects will take some time to complete.

Here is the Video of my Virginia City Railroad Route at Gold Hill. The Grade is a little steeper on the real V&T at Gold Hill than what I put in. I put in a Three Percent Grade on Gold Hill. I did this so Engines could make it up the hill easer. It still represent what is there in real life.

Working near Virginia City. In the Virginia And Truckee railroad Heyday there was a Wooden Trestle near Virginia City. All that remains is a small section that crosses the tracks. I have recreated this to the best of my ability. Still work in progress but I believe I have captured the feel of the real one.

Forget Disneyland, Chama and the C&TS is the "Happiest place on Earth"

Do you have Doris Osterwalds "Ticket to Toltec" = it is a mile by mile guide to the line. An invaluable tool. If you haven't visited, Chama is a fair bit more compacted - there is really not a lot of room between the running lines and yards - everything almost feels like it is sitting on everything else. Lots of close vegetation too. Made my 9th trip there in March for the snow clearance charter in March and am looking at going back next year for some late summer / Fall colours. The place is STUNNING in the Fall.

Had often wondered why this line hadnt been presented in any rail sim. There is the dramatic climb to Cumbres summit from Chama or the longer run from Antonito, with Whiplash and Tanglefoot. Look forward to seeing these represented.

Good luck - look forward to seeing your progress. If I can assist in any way, just drop me a pm (I worked with Rick on the D&S route a couple of years back)

Cheers from Down Under...

Thanks for the information it will help when I go back to that route. Working on Virginia and Truckee right now. The V&T will take some time to complete. But it is coming along nicely. I will take some screen shots in the next few days.

I will do the Cumbres and Toltec route but not for a while. Remember the V&T route is 24 miles long and the Cumbres and Toltec route is 65 Miles long.
Any information on either route is appreciated. When I finish the V&T route I will make a new post for the Cumbres and Toltec route. Thanks for the offer to help on the Cumbres and Toltec route. I work alone on my routes that is when I am making the routes. But thank you again for the offer.

I'm not meaning to criticise your excellent work, but that crossing in the first image of your last post would probably look better with just the road over the rails wouldn't it? This is one of the things with some routes that stands out as being unrealistic to me.

Or maybe lower it a bit, so that only the top's visible. Also, a bit of the embankment is protruding through the road loft.
